After reading all of the great information here and the links provided on feeding raw I have started to make the switch completely over.
I am feeding THK Embark now with added ground beef, chicken hearts/livers, raw eggs, chicken necks, chicken wings. Switching off these things over the course of a few weeks.
Supplementing with salmon oil now, I have that Vit E is used up in the processing of oils like this. My question is on what everyone has found to be the easiest form of Vitamin E to use.
I see Leerburg sells a 200IU capsule but that the recommended dose for a dog under 25lbs is only 100IU. Do you use regular Vitamin E from the pharmacy, is there a pump form available?
Still learning about raw and getting more comfortable with it everyday, maybe soon will completely switch and only use THK when leaving her with someone else.
Thanks in advance for any info.

Hi Keith, and congrats on your decision to feed raw!!
We buy most of our supplements here (i.e. Grizzly Salmon Oil, Kelp powder, etc. - and THK as a backup to our base line plan). But the vitamin E capsules we buy at the pharmacy. It's easy to get the IU sizes you need depending on sizes of your dogs.
Best Wishes!!

Thanks. Do you just give the capsules whole or cut open and empty?

I agree with Beth that you can get the correct size very easily at a health food store or pharmacy.
I buy 100 IU caps too, for my small dog.
I used to pierce and squeeze the capsule until I discovered that they will eat them in their food with no hesitation. Of course, mine are all part hog, so this may not be universally true.
P.S. When you make your choice, you might want to get "natural mixed tocopherols."

You can see what happens...... I think there's a very good chance that you will not have to open 'em.

I can't think of a better plan for making a gradual shift, for people who might not be quite ready to jump into the raw diet 100% yet.
It's true that raw is simple and easy, as long as you've read up and understand the guidelines, but I empathize with people who are nervous about taking the plunge. Heck, I gave home-cooked for quite a while as I studied and thought and worried (olden days -- pre-internet ).
THK, completely balanced and safe for adding RMBs and raw meat to....... it's perfect for that first step.
When I read about it (here), I started right away to buy it (also here) as backup to raw. I love having it for dogsitters, for travel, and for empty-freezer syndrome.

Hi again Keith. To ditto Connie, we feed the whole capsules (gel type caps of course) here. If they aren't left in the food bowl, and you can't see 'em coming out the other end, we assume that things are working as planned. But I can't see a problem at all if you wanted to cut them open and squish them out over the food.
Best wishes!

Thanks for all the replies. Now that I think about this just must be new pupply paranoia. Why else would I worry about her swallowing a gel cap the size of a tic tac right after seeing her gulp down a 3"+ intact chicken neck without even thinking about chewing it first?

Plus, it's dissolving and smooth......
I thought you were worried about whether or not the puppy would accept it without squeezing it out!
I'm laughin' with you, not at you.

I sort of was, but the realized with her being a hound she gulps down her food so fast she won't even know it's there.
