I'm on week one of feeding my GSD whole raw meaty bones, rather than grinding them as we have done for the past year.
She is an incredibly sensitive dog when it comes to her digestive system and recently underwent testing for a bacterial overgrowth and EPI. We are still waiting on the EPI results, but I think it is highly unlikely that this is a problem. She just goes through phases 3-4 times a year where she doesn't want to eat...personally I think she has some time of acid reflux during times of stress (which come very easily to her as her nerves are not exactly solid).
Anywho, this morning she threw up some of the thigh bone she was fed last night. I'm thinking this is normal sometimes. Am I right? She had no problem eating her milkbone this morning and seems normal otherwise.
Melissa,
One thing I have seen with my little king Charles is that when I give him rmbs' with maybe too much meat on the bones he will throw up, not everytime but often, usually it's with chicken meat so I cut any extra amount of meat off the bones and it seems to help , his weight is good.I don't know if you are having the same problem though
Thank you Angelique...this may be the case or perhaps she just didn't chew enough. Seems fine this morning....yeesh, with this girl it is always something :p
it's normal to regurgitate food and then re-eat it. if you feed the food frozen, they eat much more slowly and thoroughly, and are less likely to need to regurgitate.
