Me and my wife will be having a newborn here in a few months and I am wanting a dog that is trained to protect my home..I have to leave some nights and my wife and new baby will be home alone, so i want a dog that i will feel comfortable leaving them with...The dog must be great with a small child and must have some good obedience....shoot me an email if u have or no where i might be able to find something along these lines...thanks
Hi, her pedigree looks nice. My dog has some of the same dogs in his pedigree. If she is anything like my pooch she is civil, dream to handle and also pretty independent (gets on my nerves).
BUT I have also seen couple of dogs with similar pedigree to be just a nicely balanced dogs that could do very nice shutzhund, but they would not handle too much pressure well.
It all depends on this girl. See her, compare, talk to the trainer, set up situations where her temperament and drives will come out and you can see for yourself if she will protect your family. I really make sure that the dog is suitable for work that I pay my $$ for. Not every great dog is a great PPD. Good luck.
Most of the times a PPD is not what you need.. Most of the times a dog that will react and bark and go crazy is good enough to scare 99.9 percent of the intruders away.. That one percent that comes in your house that shoots the gun, is also gonna kill the dog and everyone in the house. I dont mean to sound mean but thats reality..
IMO a dog with no prey drive is an unbalanced dog, I wouldn't waste my time with a dog that's all defense. A defensive dog will probably put on a nice show though, n if they have the nerve to back it up they'll bite, but I wouldn't choose it.
She needs to have balance prey and fight drive.. Prey is need to case hunt, fight is "bring it on sucker". If she doesnt have any prey.. I wonder
I can't even write
I agree, I would skip a dog that works only in Defence ,but looking at that dogs age, maybe they started her bite work a little too soon too.She will be 2 this may, I don't know how her breeder can really say how good of a PPD dog she is.She hasn't matured yet.Looking at her pedigree, she has a few dogs in my females pedigree too.my female is almost 3 and she has great drives to be a PPD dog but I can't say that at barely 2 I could have said that about her.I think if you plan on getting this dog that you get a trainer to work her bite, to do some prey drive bite exercise to teach her to grip properly and teach her how to focus better. You might get a real good dog that way.I have seen dogs that would come out with lots of defense and we just worked them in prey for a while to get them to feel more comfortable about the bite work all together but it is workable if you have a trainer that understands all of that and knows what he is doing.I think you should get a video of this girl doing her bite work and see really how she comes on .She looks nice and I like her pedigree but unless you see more of this female you really won't kow what oyu have.Good luck!
ok after talking with the ppl some more ,,they say that she has no interest in a sleeve....probably not what im looking for..can anyone direct me to someone who might have what im looking for...a younger dog that has obedience and has good prey and defence
Brent, you should find an experienced trainer in your area first. Talk to him and see his dogs and then explain exactly what you're looking for in a dog. It's going to require some work on your part and potentially some distance driving. Then you can pick out the right dog for you and your family. It's crucial to have someone experienced to help you to pick out and train/maintain the dog,and to educate you how to live with the dog (important), a drivey dog is a lot different than a nice house pet, lots to learn! In my opinion , it's really important to have experienced people help you learn and much better for the dog. Hope this helps,
