I am new to the board and maybe somone could help me. I am a K9 handler in the Southeast. I handle a KNPV PHI titled Mal named STING. I'm in the process of getting a Female Pup from Holland and Im hoping to title her. Ive been looking into the different sport groups and(FR,Mondo,ScH etc ) my question is are IPO titles and Sch titles the same? I have yet to find a web site or anything that tells me anything solid. Could someone shed some light on this subject or just point me in the right direction. Maybe a website or print material. Thanks
Here's a brief history.
IPO some years back differed somewhat from schutzhund. It has different escorts and articles on the tracks etc. But to a novice you would see little difference in the dogs performance. Judging standards were a bit different also. IPO was and is the International format of schutzhund. Breed clubs offer the titles and so do all breed organizations along with schutzhund type titles (now being transitioned in Germany to VPG instead of the age old schutzhund due to problems with people calling their dog fighting dogs and viscious drug house dogs "schutzhund" and the subsequent lack of "PC" in the term.
Over the last few years there has been a concerted effort to make IPO ands Schutzhund the same thing to facilitate International competition and recognition of titles accross the board.
Thanks for the info. Can anyone suggest one of the many books that would help me the most. I know getting out there and doing it is the best way to learn but I would like to have a better understanding of IPO and the training.
