I was wondering (since I am new to all this) if someone could check this recipe and let me know if this is okay to make for training treats for a pup? I am working on making my treats, and have come across a lot of recipes, but some just do not seem healthy. I would just feel better if someone would ok it. Thanks!
1 egg
1/3 cup milk
1 cup quick-cooking oats
1/2 banana
1/2 cup flour (white or whole wheat)
1/8 cup rice
Squash bananas, and beat the egg. Mix all ingredients, then spread evenly on a plate. Next, heat in microwave for 3 1/2 minutes. When done, let cool, then cut and serve. The rice can be pre-cooked or uncooked for extra crunch!
There's nothing wrong with it - but think about who you are giving this to... a carnivore... I don't see anything my dogs would go bonkers over.
I do real simple treats - buy a food dehydrator and put liver on the trays. Dry in your garage for a coupld of days and then break into size appropriate pieces. Easy, cheap (check out the price of freezedried liver in pet stores!) and they LOVE it!
Hot dogs are also great to use. Training treats only work if your dog loves them.
this is a really easy reicpe:
Large Slice Raw Liver
Garlic Powder (optional)
Preheat oven to 450 degrees.
Sprinkle liver generously with garlic powder.
Put liver on nonsitck metal cookie sheet. (If you don't have a nonstick cookie sheet, spray the cookie sheet with Olive Oil cooking spray)
Bake 10 minutes, turn off oven and leave until cooled.
You can turn liver over when you turn off oven if you want.
slice and freeze.

Lots of grain for a frequent treat.
I would make this a very rare treat if I were going to make it. JMO.
okay, thanks. i will just use as once in a while just for something different. i did make this and it doesnt make all that much either, so with 2 dogs ill probably just use as a "break" from my liver, beef, meat treats.
As far as using hot dogs, do you soak them to try to get salt out? i know they are not that healthy either...
okay, and i have been looking up all these types of recipes, and i dont know if i am looking in the wrong place or what, but they seem so complicated. shame on me for not having fresh herbs around which the recipes i found call for. and a lot of other ingredients that i really dont always have on hand. does anyone have a link to somewhere?
