I have been reading some of the info on vaccinations for my GSD's and was wondering if I could get some opinions on the 6 mo. heart month injection. I have read the adverse reaction warnings. After reading the opinions on the lyme disease vaccine and learning they can cause arthritis I'm not sure if this is the way to go. I live in the city My female is 3 yrs old and her puppies are a little over a year. They have all had PPI DHLPPC, Lyme, along with a interceptor whith the advantage. I now use the revolution once a month. I thought I was doing the right thing by keeping up with thier shots. I'm thinking of stopping the shots all together or just having them done every 2 or 3 years. Because I live in a area where we enjoy 4 seasons I don't protect them from fleas or misquitoes 4-5 months out of the year. My vet does a heart worm test which is kind of tramatic for them at times and would like to avoid this. Does anyone else go to this extreme or am I wasting my money by trying to protect them from something that is not to large degree threat and could be causing other problems. I do take them to the woods and to the beach where there has been cases of deer ticks but I'm reading on the discussion board that if ticks are removed promptly chances are they rarely contract lyme. I like the idea of using a just arepellant before exposing them to this kind of environment and a good grooming check after we get home. i AM LEARNING ALOT FROM THE BOARD AND APPRECIATE BEING ABLE TO BE HERE Thanks
You should have your dogs checked for heartworm.. and you should give heartworm preventative.. but DO NOT give the 6 month shot.. just go with the Heartgard, once a month chewables.
The 6 month shot has several documented cases of serious side effects, even coma and death.(I realize that there are side effects for just about everything, but I recall the stats being alarming) I would definately steer clear of the shot. Someone in my rescue group sent me the stats on it but unfortunately my computer crashed last week and I lost everything. I will try to have them sent to me again and I will post them.
Hi folks,a quick question.I`m considering using REVOLUTION.I have asked two different vets about it and one says it`s good stuff, and the other does`nt reccomend it and says she knows of a dog that actually acquired heartworm disease while on revolution(dont know the details)anyway has anyone ever used this product or know anything about? Thanks.
