After reading some of the other postings, I'm scared and seeking advise. We have 10, 3 week old boxer pups. Of course they haven't had any shots and are being started on a puppy milk replacer/kibble mixture. I was curious if anyone had any recommendations on letting the pups outside (the house into the yard) for the first time. They were whelped and raised in the house. The adults have all been vaccinated as scheduled. We just bought this new house in a new subdivision. Our yard is fenced in, but there are coyotes that run on the outside, and possibly through our yard before it was fenced in. We have had the fence for almost a year now. My concern is taking the pups outside before their first shots and catching parvo/distemper. Is this likely, or should I at least wait until they are 6 weeks and have had their first shots? For what its worth, the adults are on a raw diet. I would start the pups on it, but the raw diet is not very popular in my area, and people look at me like I'm nuts. I feel it would be more beneficial to start the pups on kibble since that is what the new owners will probably feed, rather than have a new owner try to switch from raw to kibble, knowing they would do it cold turkey (no pun intended). I will definately try to get buyers to switch from kibble to raw, but I also want what will be best for the pups, and that is if they will be on kibble, to get use to it from the start. Well that's my justification, so what about the pups in the yard?
One thing I left out, the pups as well as the adults will stay inside during the night, and in crates while we are gone. Just want to get them out for air, sunlight, and excercise when they get older and need more room than the whelping box, but don't want to risk them getting sick and dying.
