Yesterday I took my 15 mo gsd for a walk. We visited a male dog friend of hers and also a cat that plays in a store window with her. On our little journey we came across small dog off lead, as we approached the little dog went into a crouching position so I put my dog into a sit. The owner of the dog was putting packages on their steps at the time. We moved about 3 feet closer and the little dog started to get closer to us and crouched again, we are about 20 feet away from this dog. I put my girl into a down and waited until the owner finally put their dog away.
I continued on and decided to stop at a friends house. My friend only has met the dog 3 times before (always away from my home). The dog was fine with her (pretty much ignoring my friend) until my friend tried to approach her, she barked and growled a little bit. I corrected her with her prong collar and told her to sit then lay down. After a while she was allowed to check out the house. My friend and I continued talking, she went up stairs to change but when she tried to come back down the dog approached her at the bottom of her stair case and did a bark and hold on her, I corrected her and directed her to lay down next to me. My friend does not care for dogs and I think is slightly afraid of them. The dog may also have been stressed from being in a new environment and the dog trying to charge her on our walk.
Me and my friend later went to another friends home so they could walk me back towards my home. She was good at her house and didn't do anything besides look in the trash bin. When I went outside and my friends came out the dog barked at my friend coming down the front steps. She was corrected and put into a sit.
I'm not sure if this is the start of a problem with her or not, or just she doesn't know these people. Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks.
