a friend of mine lost her GSD last year and is slowly looking around for a breeder for her next pup, taking her time. she wants very much to find an old-fashioned GSD with a stable temperament, sound, and healthy for a family companion. i don't think she's into schutzhund.
tonight we started talking about really great GSDs we've known over the years, and i mentioned an outstanding example of the breed i once met who was from Israeli lines.
i've never once seen anything on this forum about GSDs from israel. is anyone in the U.S. breeding from israeli lines? if so, do you know anything about the quality of their dogs?
Israel imports many GSDd' from germany and other country.I don't think you can call it Israeli lines, what is that? What do you mean by Israeli lines that you knew of?
Just curious....
when i asked the owners of the dog in question where they found such a fantastic GSD, they said the israeli army breeds them, and that the best GSDs they had found were from israel. that's all i know.
I have seen some pretty amazing GSd and Mal out of a breeder in Israel but it was the training that was amazing on the dogs not the line, the line on those dogs were actually CZCH lines. That's why I asked.
i didn't see the training on this dog. i observed he had a calm and confident temperament, and carried himself well. he also had just stunning conformation, really striking. you know how if you have a good eye for dogs, sometimes one will just stand out like he's a movie star?
that's what this dog was like.
there must be someone breeding in israel. i'm sure the dogs always originate from somewhere else, but a breeder in time creates certain family traits with her lines.

Alice,
Sefi (I'm blanking on his last name) is a member of the forum and is an Israeli. He trains working dogs and would be the perfect person to ask. If I remember correctly, he trained dogs for the army.
Oh I understand ,I saw the same thing about a training clip of a dog in Israel that was awesome and it ws a female.Maybe Sefi will shed some light on this ...
Sefi Sahar trains bomb sniffing dogs (much need in Israel), and works with Malinois if I'm not mistaken. He is thinking of getting a GSD soon, for the traits a GSD carries, if he didn't already get one.
Angelique is corect all of our good working line gsds are imports mostly from holand and germany and some from east urop
our schz level here is not that high but we do have alot of dogs that hade prove themself on the field in real work AND THAT IS ISRAEL DOGS ONLY ADVANTAGE - WE CAN SEE MOST OF THAM STAND IN REAL AND HARD WORKING ENVIORMENTS.
thos dogs import by our security forces
from holland or germany are usally very hard dogs with lot of fight drive and solid nerves they are very dominnent to and iwhouldnt advice anyone to have tham only as afamiley dogs... any way the real good ones is not open to the civilian public and idont think they will fit aither.
the dissadvantagess of israeli dogs are clear: we dont have enough genaretions of litters to point on any new "lines".
we can indicat of alot of great dogs here ones that got shoot and still stay on the terrorist for instance or ones that have great nose work and bite but there is not much dogs we can point that produced thos dogs that locate here in israel.
we can point great lines that produced great working dogs to but they are not locate in israel.
so allthou we have good sires and dams here and there
icant point on any "lines" of real working gsds that israel produced and anyone that will tell you that is lying.
my advice is to you there for if you bother for all that distance from usa to get adog is to head to the source: germany or holland and maybe the rest of west uerop.
and only if you really need areal dog for extrim missions look for tham in israel and get to they source in ureop and buy they brother or first cousins.
with all of that said there is alot of effort to produce israeli working lines but most of the efforts concetrate on malinois right now most of the efforts is still concetrate on the locate the dogs that excsall in real work and theyr source and perches from tham breeding prospects that can work to ithink thos lines evountually will be the ideal working lines but they are still in they dippers.
if you will give me alink to the clips you mentioned ican give you my openion.
iwill post later on alink (ihave to run) to my openion the best and maybe the only real good breeders here in israel that really produced good workind malinois and gsds (im breeding some dogs to but icant give openion or recommendation on my dogs and they are not for sale in the near foture anyway).
they use mostly holland lines.
oh Sandy the gsd is still adream that ididnt fulfil yet.
