Cat flu? I haven't heard of it. Is there another name for the disease?
You need to find out what diseases you dog is most at risk for. It varies a lot by region, so I'm not sure that our USA advice on which vaccines will be particularly helpful.

Hi All
The reasons i ask is because i am worried about my female pup. she has been having random bouts of really bad diarhea. but its not permanent. she will evacuate solid loads but then sometimes very messy liquid loads aswell. i know that diarhea is one of the signs of Parvo. What other signs are there?
i am wondering if its not the milk i have been giving them, althought the male pup doesnt have the same problem.
she eats very healthily...more than the male does.
i have stopped the dairy intake and i am now monitoring there diet a lot closer. and trying to pinpoint when she has the diarhea, could it be something that doesnt agree with her stomach? perhaps a reaction to something in the diet i am giving them? the male has the same diet and no reactions.
there diet is as follows.
Montego Classic Puppy pellets with warm milk in the mornings at 6:30.
Dry Montego Classic Puppy pellets at 12:00
Montego Classic Puppy pellets mixed with Canned Soft raw Dog food in the afternoon at 4.
Soft Chunks of Home made meat and puppy mix gravy at night at 8:00 - 8:30 for the latest.
and once a week i treat them to a raw 500-800gram steak each.

I don’t know what Montego Classic Puppy Pellets are, but this diet sounds like a really rich overload for a puppy. You are feeding warm milk, a soft canned raw, chunks of homemade meat, and gravy – all in one day.
I would skip the milk and the gravy. You can fool around with different meats, but it’s time to start adding in some bones with their meals. If you want to use the pellets, feed them at one meal and then concentrate your raw meat, together with some bones, at another meal.
By the way, how old are your puppies?
You mention concerns about Parvo - have you taken her to the vet? I would keep a serious eye on the diarrhea because it is always a concern, but if this is a young pup, severe diarrhea is definitely something to worry about.
Do you have access to chicken meat/bones? This is what I would start both of them on, rather than the beef chunks and steak.
As you think, so shall you be. |

they are 14 weeks....i only started worrying last night.i am going to the vet today. she still seems very energetic jumping around like a Jack russel terrier on speed....and she eats well and doesnt have permanent diarhea...so parvo was not a worry. but its been like this since i got her. mostly solid loads...but really bad diahrea some days....
what are the other signs of parvo?
as for the chicken bones..i thought it was a bad idea to give them chicken bones because they tend to shatter...i have been giving them cow leg bones...
as for the chicken i can try that..i also read something that refers to pumkin...is that something that makes there stoll solid?

COOKED chicken bones splinter, raw ones do not. Never, ever feed cooked bones. Also, cow leg bones are weight-bearing bones and are too hard for a dog to eat - cracked/chipped teeth, for example. Also, for your puppies, they would not be able to chew enough of the hard bone to count towards their dietary intake. You need the soft bones of a chicken or rabbit that they can totally ingest. Start with some chicken backs and necks, with all the skin removed. Do this for one meal alone if you still plan on feeding the kibble. Keep this menu for 3-4 days and see how they are doing.
Yes, canned pumpkin (not pumpkin pie mix) is good for either diarrhea or constipation. You can give them a slight tablespoon at each meal.
It's good you are taking them to the vet. Let us know how you make out.
As you think, so shall you be. |

It's good you're stopping the milk. Cow's milk could definitely be one of the factors contributing to diarrhea (and the other things Jan mentioned). One pup may be more tolerant than the other to cow's milk, but it's not good for dogs.

I agree that this diet is pretty rich for a puppy. Have you always fed your puppies like this? I'd certainly get rid of the milk. Unfortunately, I'm unfamiliar with the kibble you're feeding. Perhaps you could list the ingredients for us?
With as many things as you're feeding it would be hard to pinpoint the culprit. I would feed a bland diet while she's having the diarrea. (My dog recently had a bad bout with it, and boiled chicken and rice helped a LOT--I fed about 25% chicken to 75% rice).
If the diarrea clears after a few days on the diet, I would slowly add other items, one at a time...and see what happens.
I would also add that it's good that you're going to the vet...there are certain disorders that dogs can have that will cause issues like you're having, and it's best to make sure none of those are at work. Your pups are pretty young; diarrea isn't something you want to ignore! How long has she been having these issues? You said since you got her- but how long is that exactly?
Another thing to consider with puppies that age...has she been getting into things she shouldn't? Do you have plants in your house or yard that she could be nibbling on occassionaly? Does she get in the trash?

i have had them for 8 weeks...and it wasnt this bad. initialy i thought it was just suminshe ate and then it went away for a while then i saw it again about 2 weeks ago..and it stank a lot...then it was fine few days and yesterday again it was really really messy..and guess what...it was whiteish color..so im thinking and hoping its the milk.
i have slowly gotten them to what they eat now...i started off with what we call it mielie pap. i think its called maize meal in english.
that got them bulking up and helped her solidify her stool...then i moved to the kibble...which is basicaly top of the range puppy food...i kno it contains rice...thats 1 thing..not sure of the other ingredients now..il get it l8r from home.
and then after a while i treated them to some raw minced meat...and they have been on a basis of raw minced meat or steak and kibble...and the milk in the mornings...which i stopped now.
anyways...il be leaving out all the extras ..im gona go back onto a mielie pap diet for them..mielie pap and rice...i kno thats what most big dog owners feed their puppies..i just went the variety route to try and find what they liked the most...
and what they liked the most is the warm milk...so they are not going to be happy about not getting it anymore.
