It far better than most, I've looked at so many that are much worse since I started researching. Some of us don't have the time and or resources to feed a nutritious raw diet.
The other barnd I have looked into is Natural Balance.
Chicken, Brown Rice, Lamb Meal, Oatmeal, Barley, Duck Meal, Potatoes, Carrots, Chicken Fat (preserved with mixed tocopherols), Tomato Pomace, Natural Flavor, Canola Oil, Brewers Yeast, Fish Meal, Salmon Oil, Lecithin, Whole Ground Flaxseed, Potassium Chloride, Choline Chloride, Inulin, Taurine, Spinach, Parsley Flakes, Cranberry, Lysine, L-Carnitine, Yucca, Kelp, Vitamin E Supplement, Iron Proteinate, Zinc Proteinate, Copper Proteinate, Ferrous Sulfate, Zinc Sulfate, Copper Sulfate, Potassium Iodide, Thiamine Mononitrate (Vitamin B-1), Manganese Proteinate, Manganous Oxide, Ascorbic Acid, Vitamin A Supplement, Biotin, d-Calcium Pantothenate, Manganese Sulfate, Sodium Selenite, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride (Vitamin B-6), Vitamin B-12 Supplement, Riboflavin (Vitamin B-2), Vitamin D Supplement, Folic Acid (Vitamin B).

Chicken, Brown Rice, Lamb Meal, Oatmeal, Barley, Duck Meal, Potatoes,
The reason I think more highly of this list than the first one you posted is the increased meat and decreased grain.
The first list (Chicken meal, brown rice, brewers rice, corn gluten) almost certainly has more grain than meat, and you'll note that the rice is in two places ...... when parts of a grain are listed separately, I always suspect that this is to hide the preponderance of, say, rice, over meat. (That is, if the two rice ingredients were combined, I suspect that rice would take top spot on the list.)
Also, brewer's rice (or brewer's anything) is waste product from the alcohol industry. It's basically no-nutrient filler, IMO.
Have you seen this list of better kibbles from the Leerburg site?
http://www.leerburg.com/all-natural%20kibble.htm
I'd suggest that you add salmon oil and E to any diet, BTW. No matter what the package might say, no kibble contains raw fish oil, and that's the form dogs need Omega 3s to be in in order for them to have the benefit of the long-chain EFAs. Flax does not have the same benefit for dogs that it has for humans, because dogs cannot convert short-chain Omega 3 EFAs into long-chain (and humans can, at maybe 10%). Flax is a good ingredient (as long as there are no allergies); it's just that fish oil is necessary as well.

Bob, you may want to look into Canidae - here are the first few ingredients -
Chicken Meal, Turkey Meal, Brown Rice, White Rice, Lamb Meal, Chicken Fat (preserved with Mixed Tocopherols), Herring Meal
It's fairly easy to find, and the price is quite reasonable.
My dog did very well on Canidae. I'm switching him to raw now, but continue to use the leftover Canidae for training treats.

I'm looking into the Canidae now, as I just found out that where I have been purchasing the Nature's Variety, they also carry the Canidae.
Nature's Variety seems to have a good list and we're using the Chicken & Rice formual (NO WHEAT), but I want to check out all the options.
