How do I go about teaching my 7 month old GSD, that its NOT ok to charge and bark like crazy at the horses? I was told to take him around the horse with his prong collar, and keep him by my side and give him a correction for doing anything other than looking.
What is baffling me is that he has been going around the horses for a month now, and no problems until the last two days. All of a sudden out of the blue, he wants to charge and bark. Not cool. Any suggestions? I also want to add that he actually is not "in" with the horses, this is all thru the fence. However, I would like to go on a trail ride and be able to take smoke along, is this an impossible feat?
Am I asking too much at this point for a 7 month old?

Thanks for looking for an article! I didnt see one, thats why I made this post. I try not to bother anyone.
SMokes reaction to a small correction on the prong collar is he falls down into a submissive on the back position. I barely even corrected with it and thats what I got. So I need some help on this one. I have never yelled at this dog, never hit, never scolded, or abused him. However, I dont know what happened to him the first five months of his life.
I just want to raise a good dog, I dont want to ruin a good pup. Thats why I am here!
Oh, he is pretty calm on lead, but getting the prong collar on and off is the trick. It takes me out ten minutes to get the collar back together, cause I dont have very strong fingers and the collar is new. And very stiff.

Christina, why are you using a prong collar on Smoke? If her reaction is to roll over on her back to a small correction with a prong, she doesn't need a prong. Especially at 7 months old with unknown background. That, IMO, will mess her up. You want to give and build her confidence, and that's not doing it. Right now it's only serving to make her submit out of fear. Not a good thing. You should try a flat collar for her instead of a prong. She'll probably only need a gentle guiding even with a flat collar if she's that submissive.
