Anyone have any ideas for slightly heating the bed of a senior with OA?
I saw some handmade "corn pads" (flannel covers filled with feed corn, which you microwave and then put on the dog's bed, or freeze in summer; very cheap) that seemed like a good idea if they aren't too bumpy.
I searched the Leerburg site but found only the large electric neo-natal pads for whelping.
I thought about the electric pads for humans, but even though it's not a chewy puppy, I was leery of a plug-in pad.
Those pads can be made of rice to have a less bumpy surface. I used one for my puppy the last 2 days before she was euthanized. I could make you one - it's the least I can do for all the help and advice you've given me!

Can you tell me about how long it stayed a little warm? I was wondering: Do I put one in at bedtime and maybe swap with a new warm one in the middle of the night, or is it OK as is all night, or what?
I think you're great to offer to make one. How about this: I will email the eBay person (who makes them and sells them on eBay, and the buyer can choose the fabric) and ask if she could do rice instead. If not, I would definitely email you, because I don't know how to sew at all. I'd have to staple it or something.
I do like the rice idea.... it sounds MUCH better than corn.
Also, I was leaning towards smallish, so the dog could have part of his bed not-warmed in case he felt over-warmed.
P.S. Do you have any idea which would be better, between the microwaved one and the reflects-body-heat one?
A pound of rice heats in the microwave for 3 minutes on high and stays warm for about 4 hours. If you lay the pad on top of the dog and throw a wool blanket over, the dog stay nice and toasty warm all night.

OK.
I'm going to email that eBay person.
I'm glad I posted.
It is very apparent how the dog is stiff when he first gets up on cool nights but not on warm nights.
