John, I posted this a while ago in another thread:
"here's a link to the average temps in Germany (since the GSD originated there it sheds light on why this breed doesn't like the heat but actually have no problem with the cold). The temps are in fahrenheit instead of centigrade so easy to compare to our temps: http://www.weather.com/outlook/travel/bu...tomnav_business "
My black GSD hates the heat - being black makes it worse for him. My last GSD hated the heat too, and would run outside to do her business, run back inside to the A/C. Now with summer, all exercise is done usually early morning between 5 to 6AM, and evening after 7PM. Neither of my dogs were exercised during the day, triple digit temps here.
Yea, I've been to AZ and my, the heat there is a lot worse than in our place here in the Philippines. I would think that an AC'd dog would be more of a REQUIREMENT rather than an option of luxury.
I've been checking the weather from the actual town in Germany my pup will be coming from in real time. So far, I'm quite lucky that it is likewise hot in the area at this time: approx 40deg F cooler in the day time than our weather here now. Being a a young pup, I think I'll have better chances of letting him adapt to our weather here. I've already invested in a swamp cooler just for him hehehe.

You are indeed a kind owner for getting the swamp cooler!
Yep, A/C is a requirement in Phoenix for a dog, IMO. When it gets 115 degrees here, and it does, that's in the shade. Out in the sun it's really not tolerable, at all, unless you have a pool, which I don't. The sun is blistering, unlike anywhere else I've ever lived. It sears you, literally. You can feel it burning you alive after only a minute or less.
Yeow! You've succinctly described your state's burning climate there. Well, I guess not having a good beach to compensate for the hot weather makes it worse ey. That's my plus factor here: though it gets hot and humid, you (and your furry canine) can always take a 45 min flight to white-sandy Boracay to cool down!
