Hello:
I am thinking about going BARF in the future, I'm not 100% sold just yet (but getting there) and I'm still in the research phase, but I came across some information about green tripe used in raw feedings? Does anyone have any any information or pro's/con's about feeding tripe or green tripe?
I currently feed my dog Solid Gold, but my distributer will not carry that after the first of the year, nor do they carry Innova or Wellness. I'm trying to stock up on some dog food now, but does anyone have any success with other commercially produced kibble?
From my own experience with my GSD, there's no better way of putting solid muscle on a dog than green tripe.
I confirmed this with an experiment recently: Oka had a skin problem and I tried an elimination diet to diagnose it, so I stopped the green tripe, and he lost some muscle. Two weeks ago I put him back on green tripe (and confirmed it wasn't the cause), and he put the muscle right back on, and his stamina increased markedly.
Greentripe.com is an excellent source, for Mary puts fatty meat and trachea/gullet (a source of chondroitin) in her product as well.
BTW, I've not found any kibble I was satisfied with, unless you count Abady as kibble (it looks like brown sugar and smells like pate, so I don't). It's probably the best commercial dog food out there, IMO, and I feed it as a supplement to tripe, raw meat, and pureed vegetables.
I like "Blackwood" dog food, it has probiotics in it and it is also slow cooked "crockpot style" it has a high absorption rate, the good stuff isnt cooked out like in high temp. cooked dog foods , I have shepherds, but I also have an English Bulldog with sensitive skin, I put him on "Blackwood Catfish and Potatoes" and I had no more skin problems. They have a variety of types to pick from to meet your needs like "Blackwood 7000" for high stress working dogs. They have a wbsite. Check it out.
Stop making excuses for your dog and start training it!

I second what Dave has to say! My dog loves it and thrives on it.I haven't given it to her for a few weeks now due to my inability to pick it up, and I see the difference in her.I'll be getting more in a few days!!Also, if you are on the east coast you might want to try martinsk9formula.com for your supply. Greentripe.com is for west coast people! The shipping was very expensive, so see if you can find a reliable source near your home.

I have fed raw tripe to my dogs for over 8 yrs. They love it and I finally got used the smell. It is very good to give them larger pieces (I usually only do this outside). The chew and rip at it and thus it can help to put muscle on.
I always wean my pups onto tripe. It is loaded wtih digestive enzymes for them.
Although tripe is a great source of protein it has a limited amount of it in it, thus it should not be your main or only source of meat/protein. I usually give it a couple of times a week.
