i have started to use the prong collar on my pulling 11 month old lab,the walking harness didnt make it,maybe because of me not being consistant.the prong seems to work well, friday will be a real test when i drop my car off for tune up and walk 3 miles home with my dog.i have been told how to properly use it by my trainer.also we are in advanced general training going for cgc,i wanted to do therapy with kids and reading, maybe some nursing homes,i dont think he will pass the part of the test where you leave for 3 minutes,he barked whined and scrathed at door to get back to me,oh well more practice i guess, its ongoing forever
11 months can be old enough (12 months is ideal) to start structured running and jumping provided the dog is not a giant breed or large outside the standard. A three mile walk should not be an issue.
Sue… If a few years ago you would have told me that I would be able to leave my knucklehead in a 5 minute sit while I’m out of sight, I’d laugh. There is no limit to what you can accomplish with your dog with good, structured, goal oriented training. Get Ed’s obedience DVD and then start shopping for a good trainer or club to help you out!
