Hi to all and an advance thanks for any help I might get.
I have an adopted/rescue shiba inu 9 1/2yo, her nose skin is coming off. I firsted noticed the sides where the skin had come off and thought because she rubs the sides of her face in the carpet it could be rug burn. This morning on the top back part of her nose looked funny and when I touched and gently stroked it the black skin came off in my fingers.
I went on line and searched and even went to the site for crusty nose someone posted.
Her nose is not hard and crusty, it was when I first got her but we resolved that issue.
Please help.

You need to call the vet, because there are a few possible triggers. Sunburn, bacteria, fungus .... even nasal mites can do this.
You said it's not crusty -- was it dry? Cracked?
Is the skin underneath pink or black? (I mean, is it just a layer of the black peeling off, or the whole black part?)
Edit: I'd keep the dog out of the sun until you see the vet.
The skin is pink underneath. It was dry but not cracked. I will keep her out of the sun. As a matter of fact we have been in the sun a bit more lately. I will call the vet
Connie
I just called the vet's office, he is gone for the day. The teck said it could be a simple sun burn or it could be a skin infection so we will go to the vet on Monday.
Thanks
It is possible that she is sunburned but I know that she has a skin infection I just really did not want to keep giving her antibiotics.
I will wait a few days before running to the vet.
Both my dogs are on full raw diet, I have since this past Monday started giving kibble because they have gas so bad and I can't figure out what is causing it.
The kibble is Canine Caviar Lamb and Pearl Millet.

By "keep giving her antibiotics," do you mean she is or has recently been on an antibiotic regimen?
How long were they on fresh/raw? What ingredients? What produce, if any? Any cruciferous vegetables (broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, bok choy, etc.)?
