Cool, Michael -- Reading those 3 books would be like earning a graduate degree in "K9 Psych" <:-)
How anyone can live without a dog is beyond me... |

This was my reply:
"Hah, OK
I was just trying to be technical. The reason i said there is no psychology degree. Is well i looked for one before lol. After doing some reading I learned i was placing human emotions on the dog and thinking of the dog as a small child or something a long the lines of that.
Now, anyone who has worked with dogs knows they are not dumb. They have moods and they can be trained. They can figure out problems by them selfs I would like to say they have emotional connections. So yes, they do have a intelligence. I don't think anyone can argue that point. Now what i am saying is they don't have a higher intelligence, they don't have morals. Your dog does not know the difference between Good and Bad. He knows what he has to do to avoid pain.
Do i think getting a degree in psychology will help you train dogs? I don't know, i would like to think so. That was my plan for a while."
Thats pretty much how i view the dogs mind. This isn't a discussion to see who is right and who is wrong. I am mainly interested and seeing other trainers views on how the dogs mind works.
I don't know exactly what you are saying here, but I have 3 years of university psychology, and I would say it has helped me in dog training. Not Freud, but behaviorism for example.
You know that major dog training concepts like operant and classical conditioning come from psychology right? This does not involve emotion.
Not sure what you are asking but if hands on dog training is your thing, I wouldn't go for a psych degree. Too much other crap involved not related to dogs

. . . saving up for the second and third.
While you're saving up, here's a cheaper one that's been around a while and is well regarded (even if it isn't available here )
The Dog's Mind: Understanding Your Dog's Behavior by Fogle is an in-depth look at the physiology and psychology of their minds.

You mean to say that I wasted all that money I spent on getting Redhead psychoanalyzed?

There is the old psych saying that goes:

Hey there, Jennifer
Ok lets what exactly am i trying say here... You will have to forgive me i am horrible at trying to explain myself on here.
I just think to many people are trying to compare human psychology to a canines. As far as you having three years experience in it i think thats great, all it can do is help if you know more about how the brain works.
