I have the opportunity from time to time to get alligator carcass. The tail, hide and head are spoken for, but the rest of the reptile such as the organs, skinned torso and so on is just discarded. Would this be a good source for RMB? Are the organs, with the exception of the liver, wise to offer to the dogs? Any fear of parasites or strange viruses as there is with wild pigs? One concern that I have is the gator coming out of the swamps which are pretty much a catch all for pollutants. I do worry a little about mercury levels, fertilizer run off and so on. Always looking for training avenues close to home. Any suggestions?

This is the tail cartiledge with the remnants of the gator meat on it. I'll post the pics as soon as I figure out how that's done. Here's the odd thing, the GSD that loves the raw chicken leg quarters turned up her nose to the alligator, which does have a strong fish smell. The Rottie, who would rather eat kibble than the raw chicken, devoured the gator tail. Different tastes, I guess. I think it will take the GSD getting hungry before she tries the gator. I guess I'm never going to make my living as a butcher. I tried to carve up the body of the gator in an effort to get some organ meat. It was apparent that I didn't know what I was doing, so I quickly gave up. So much for organ meat. Check back for the pics Always looking for training avenues close to home. Any suggestions?

My dog loves to chase them. 99% of the time they reach a tree in time, but one time one fell off the tree and my dog got it. I immediately grabbed him because I'm not that crazy about him killing other animals. But then I thought, hmm free food. They are considered a pest here, so I have green light. But I'm not so sure I want to go through the dog killing it experience. Sure wanna see your pics, though.

I'd also like to see the pics of you wrestling with it trying to get to the organ meat. On the next one cut up the middle of the belly from the base of the tail (just above that little orifice) up to the ribs. Reach in and pull the intestines out. The heart, liver and lungs will be up under the ribs, you will have to reach in and cut or pull them away at the top. The kidneys will probably still be attached to the low back. This is all assuming that gators have their parts held in the same way as chickens, cows, hogs, goat, sheep, and deer. Have fun!!

He has 5 huge trash cans that he has to empty out twice a week. The tails are great! You can snap off sections with your bare hands! On the whole carcas I took I did chop off the four legs and I'll feed them later. I don't have any pics of me trying to filet the gator torso. I did fine opening up the torso so as to expose the intestines without nicking them. Things got messy whey I tried to cleanly cut out the heart and so on. I figured I would take the heart, lungs and stomach. Anybody close want to tutor me on this? The processor told me that gators are naturally resistant to disease. He claims that scientist have injected salmonella and e-coli into live specimens without a negative effect. Any tips on posting the pics? Always looking for training avenues close to home. Any suggestions?
