I have a 5 month GSD; she is a very sweet dog but we are having a problem with her peeing. She will go outside and have a proper pee and poop but she has either a submissive or excitement peeing problem, we have tried everything, leaving her in the kennel for a while when we come home, take her outside before we talk to her or give her any attention, but every time we give her any attention she pees, if we give her a correction, like NO leave it alone, she pees. Now if my 13 yr old plays with her nothing happens it only happens when my husband and I touch her. Help I feel like we are drowning in puppy pee, will this ever go away.
Do read those threads Connie linked to. Just wanted to add that over correcting a 5 month old baby, especially if the dog has a mellow/sweet/soft temperament, is a bad idea. It can bring on apprehension in the pup, since they just don't have the ability to know and remember everything they're NOT supposed to do.
If you have that many things around that she is supposed to leave alone, you need to puppy proof your home. Put trash behind doors, close bathroom doors, spray Bitter Apple on furniture legs, take up rugs (if that's one thing she bites on), etc.
Constant correction (if you find yourself doing that, analyze it to see), is not good for any dog, much less a puppy. You might be instilling fear, which can cause submissive peeing. If it's peeing out of excitement, well then you'll just have to wait until she grows out of it. Just be calm in your touch and your voice, that will help.
