I have often heard of gas for a day or two or three when starting your dog on a raw diet. The system is adjusting to a brand-new experience and throwing off accumulated toxins. Then the flora of the intestines adjusts to the new diet, and it goes away.
I would probably add a little plain no-sugar unflavored live-culture natural yogurt to help get the digestion going.
Totally normal. Your dog will go through a detox period and flatulence is a common part of it. It's so different than what his system is used to. As he produces the enzymes necessary for proper digestion, things will go a lot smoother. There are a ton of threads on early stages of raw here if you do a search. Google is even easier sometimes. Just put "leerburg starting raw" in and I'll bet you get a bunch .
re:side effects/beginning a new raw diet.
didier: I used natural plain yogurt mixed in with my Bindi's food and it has worked great for her, no gas, no diahrea, nothing like that. She weights about 18 pounds, and I used a tablespoon each morning with her egg. SHe loved it!
Hope this helps.
God bless you
