Some others that she has talked to said that they do not feed moose due to the fact that they have more parasites from spending so much time in the water????? Anyone know anything? They just slurped it up, it must've been one of their favourites (they liked it even more than caribou and deer meat!) They're really healthy too. They've both gotten a clean bill of health from the vet since then and none of them are on anti worm or parasite meds either (no heartworm meds). I wouldn't worry about it, especially if your friend is going to freeze the meat for a while. I am telling all my hunter friends to focus on killing moose when hunting season starts. I am so looking forward to being able to feed my dogs moose again, it's really nice meat

Throw them in the freezer for a while then throw the whole thing in the backyard. The dogs would gorge on them for a little while and they were happy, but a bit gaseous. :-) I have since lost the 18 cf freezer, so I don't get to do that anymore. Takes too much room.

I have lot's friends that hunt Moose, Deer and Caribou. Moose is the best .. I'd eat it myself before I gave it to the dog. As well I've never heard of Moose meat full of parasites, that statement to me seems a little far fetched. Especially if the meat is properly butchered and frozen. I don't have any buddies that I know offhand moose hunting this year. But Deer season starts here after Halloween so it should have a full freezer soon enough!

I am counting the days I am seriously considering purchasing another freezer (I have 3 for the dogs already) so I don't miss out on anything! I agree, moose meat is beautiful. I am not sure who she talks to about raw diet, but she has been emailing me quite a bit about it with questions. She is a great gal and I am glad to see she is going raw. So, I will steer her here to Leerburg as well. I ended up getting both deer tags this year, so not only do I get to go hunting, but we had an early doe season so I am already getting the freezers ready for what the hunters bring....YAY!!!
