Hi all,
I just noticed while petting Cito that he seems to be losing pigment on his nose leather. He has a light liver nose and the very tip, and around the nostrils is now a pale pink! I thought maybe he's been rubbing his nose against something but can't figure out what it could be. I googled it and all the articles I saw were related to auto-immune issues and dermatitis. Cito's food has not changed and he hasn't been out in the sun lately (I usually put a bit of sunscreen on his nose anyway). Any ideas or experiences with this?? Thanks!

Because there are a couple of serious possibilities (such as the discoid lupus you saw when you looked it up) as well as non-serious reaction-type possibilities, I would show the vet. You might want to do a search here, too, since there was a thread very much like this a few weeks ago.
I think you're right to keep the dog sun-protected, too. It will probably be nothing at all serious, but pigment loss does cause less sun protection.
wow, I never even thought of a sensitivity like that! He does it from stainless though and has been since he was a pup. I'm going to do some more research and set up a vet appointment. If nothing else perhaps we can eliminate some possibilities.
Thanks for the suggestions and the links Connie! Oh, and no crusting, scaling, scabbing, oozing or anything. Just a change in color. Almost looks like someone rubbed a little "color remover" on his nose:-).
