What does your dog do that requires him to be bathed so frequently?
Excessive bathing of a GSD can create skin irritability and problems in a breed that is notorious for not having skin problems. They require the natural oils generated by their skin for protection.
In most cases, a good brushing with a rake and shedding blade is enough unless they're rolling around in pee and poop like my annoying puppies like to do. My own dogs (the ones that dont splash around in their pee) get bathed a couple times a year.
To answer your question though, I usually use whatever puppy shampoo I can get ahold of that advertises oils in the formula designed to replenish the natural supply that the soap will wash away. As long as its intended for dogs I'm not too worried about what I use, I've never had any issues with any puppy shampoos i've used.
Thanks for the responses, our vet told us to bath every 4 to 6 weeks if needed. We do it cause its been needed (puppy likes to lay in the mud)Otherwise we try to wait longer and he gets brushed and raked at least twice a week. I was curious cause there's so many at the pet store and I know thier skin is sensitive. Wondered if any out there are bad
I've just recently purchased the furminator and I also purchased their shampoo. I think it works really well and like the awesome tropical smell it has. They advertise that is has Omega 3 and 6 oils in it and also is supposed to reduce shedding.
We sell the furminator and I LOVE it but when I was sent samples of the shampoo and conditioner, I was not really impressed which is why we don't sell it. We do sell the Furminator, just not the shampoo. Here's the link Furminator
I feel like it leaves a "film" on the coat and quite honestly, Omega 3 and 6 need to be in the dogs diet to do any good, not poured on the hair and rinsed off.

I got that Furminator from Leerburg last year, and I have to agree that it's the best thing ever. I finally have the tumbleweeds in the corners in the house under control.
I agree, the furminator works great for getting out alot of hair! I've never noticed a film but then I'm not that observant when it comes to bathing. Guess I'll be trying the Pure Pet that Cindy suggested, it's a lot cheaper! Even better if it works great! Anyone that has done grooming for a living should have a pretty good grasp on what works well!
