You know, I have been looking into this natural BARF diet lately, thinking that since everyone is raving about it, it must be beneficial.
Well, I went to a link that someone put up in this forum to try and learn more, (can't remember which thread, sorry) I stopped immediately when I saw a question about vegetarian diets. The question was, "I am a vegetarian, can I feed a BARF diet that is also vegetarian for my dog?"
Ok guys. I was almost going to try it until I saw that. NO ONE can convince me that a vegetarian diet can be good for a predominantly carnivorous animal!!! No matter how much protein you feed it. Has there been any studies about the effects of these diets?
Personally, I would like to see a dog raised on a natural diet side-by-side with one fed a high quality dog food and see the difference for myself. I hate to say I'm a little skeptical now.
Lauren, I have looked at some, and they were all chicken, fish, beef bones and such. I expected that.
But when I saw that this person stated it was ok to feed a vegetarian diet, (as long as there was sufficient protein) it would be ok. THAT made me skeptical about the WHOLE thing. It made me wonder if this was just a new fad thing...
Granted this was just one site. I will do a ton more research before I decide. Thanks for the input.
There are a few nuts that are giving out bad advice about everything, including suggesting a vegetarian dog diet.
The nice thing about raw is that you can feed what you want. You don't have to feed vegetarian just because someone else is. Don't discount all of it just because of the odd nut.
