Yesterday Ruy ate one of those plastic things that come in meet packages. It’s the thing that they put to absorb the blood.
I was about 85% sure he ate it. I didn’t see him eating it, but I caught him licking the meat package (he took it from the garbage) and there was no trace of the plastic thing.
He usually goes potty once a day, always in the morning. He went this morning and everything looked normal, so I thought "maybe he didn’t eat it after all". Well, I just took him out for a walk (noon) and he had some bowel movements but only liquid came out, with some blood in it. So now I’m 95% sure he ate the thing. As you may already know, he didn’t digest a $20 bill, so I’m guessing the plastic thing will come out undigested.
My question is: should I feed him in order to force the thing to come out? He seems fine, with energy, and is pretty hungry. He’s barking as we speak cause he wants to eat.
I have some chicken and thought I would give the breast without any bone. I will call some vets while I wait for some answers, but I already talked to one assistant and he told me to feed him and keep monitoring him, and to take him in if he looks sick or uncomfortable.

If this means a vet visit it probably would have been cheaper if you fed him another $20 bill.
I would say if he acts fine, and can actually poop when the urge arises that he will be fine. Take some gloves or a plastic bag with you in case you have to pull the plastic out the rest of the way, nasty, but better than him dragging it along on the walk or having to use leaves to pull it out.

Mine have done this on occasion by accident. No issues whatsoever.

Richard,
My dog at one of those once too - in fact, he may have eaten a few at a time because he got into the trash the day I cut up all his meat for the week...
I got TERRIBLY worried about intestinal blockage and poisoning (who knows what those things are made of), but proceeded with his normal feeding and walking, etc. - he never skipped a beat and it only took 2 poos for the offending absorbant pad bits to come out (they didn't make it out whole, but they were'nt exactly digested either... perhaps he chewed on them a bit before they went down... YUK!).
As long as his behavior and attitude seem normal, I wouldn't worry too much - the MINUTE you see any change in him, take him to the vet though...

Richard-
Maybe I'm being paranoid, but I'd just watch him for now, and hold off on feeding him. Is this your beagle (I'm assuming)? If so, he's quite a bit smaller that the other dogs I think posters have referred to in their responses. I'd just give liquids and watch him. I think his body has enough to do to try to pass the plastic, w/o also processing more foods. Just my opinion.
Good luck!

LOL
He ate (breast w/out bone) and is now sleeping. I'll take some plastic gloves with me next time we go out. Thanks.

Yes, Kori, it's my Beagle we're talking about. The plastic thing wasn't that big, though. And since he ate it yesterday around 6 pm, I'm guessing it's already towards the end of the intestines. I didn't give him much to eat, though.
I'll keep a close eye. Hopefully he'll get rid of it this afternoon.

There was/is blood in liquid stool??? IMO, anytime a dog is pooping blood, it is or can be quite serious...Am I reading or interpreting this incorrectly?

Yeah, I saw some blood. Not the first time I've seem blood in his stool, though, but you're right, it's reason for concern.
