Thanks Cindy for the reply. Thats why i was wondering if my dogs would do good on just chicken because beef is expensive, but i will give them other things too, like turkey, pork, and things like that. Thanks for your help.
I feed chicken, beef, pork, lamb, turkey,& fish (sardines & jack mackeral). ALways mixing it up. Usually one kind of meat in the am & a different type of meat in the pm. Usually ground meat or fish in the am because the dog 'works' several times a day)& the heavier meal in the evening.(when she will rest for the remainder of the night) Chicken quarters, turkey necks, lamb or pork neck bones, chicken frames (which are the backs with ribs & necks attached) I will also feed marrow & knuckle bones as snacks.
Thanks Anne, that really helped me out. I think im going to feed how u feed with feeding 1 kinda meat in the morning and a different kind at night. Thanks for the help!
Dont forget smelt. The local fish markets here dont get them all the time, but when they do I buy 20+ lbs and feeze them in quart size ziploc bags. Then i can give my GSD fishiscles for a snack, he loves them.
Yeah, smelts are THE snack of preference around here. If you are a real keener you can always stand in an icy cold creek with a smelt net on a spring night - easier if you take a little "anti-freeze" with you . Buying them in the store is easier but not so much fun!
Cody, remember that you will also need to add other things to the diet....such as salmon oil, veggie pulp, eggs, micronutrients etc., & other
suppliments. You might look in Ed's articles & find where he gives an example of a weekly diet & use that as a guide. There is also a book...Natural Nutrition for Dogs & Cats that he sells on this site that is good to read. I
didn't know if you are new to raw when you asked the question or just inquiring about the meat choices only... So I will add....remember that they need to have a BALANCED variety diet to live healthy on a raw diet. It really is the best choice for your dog. Good for you to take on the task of feeding raw.It takes a little more thought than opening a bag of kibble....but the rewards are great for your dog...beautiful coat, lots of energy & of course great health. Also less of a risk of bloating. I am sure that there is other info on this board on raw if you do a search. Good luck to you.
Thanks Anne, yes i am new to the raw diet and since i am i feed kibble , and raw both to make sure my dog is getting some nutrition. But i would like to be able to go to stricktly raw! Im not sure on all the supplements go give though. I dont see why a multivitamin wouldnt do good enough instead of giving a multivitmin plus other things. But thanks every1 for your help!
