And I'm not talking about cities that allow dogs everywhere. I'm looking for cities/areas that are pretty heavy in the training community. Many schutzhund clubs, frequent seminars, competitions, etc.
My hub and I are seriously looking into a place to move. As I'm an ob trainer by profession, obviously I need a place where people have lots of dogs...but that shouldn't be hard. I'm more interested in being in a place where I will have ample opportunity to LEARN. I don't mind driving an hour or two, but where I am now...there's nada.
So is there such a place? A training epicenter, so to speak? Or any hotspots? If so, I'd like to check into them. Obviously, that's not our only requirement (it wouldn't hurt if it was also a WARM place with great schools ), but it would weigh heavily with me and my hub travels for work anyway.
St. Louis has 3-4 Schutzhund clubs within an hours drive. Tons of old, established breed, obedience, agility, flyball, etc clubs in the area.
It's also where I grew up (but I left when I was 19)! And I am a bit homesick. I was hoping someone would mention STL! The Tom Rose school is there, too, I think...just outside of it.

Sounds like the midwest could be the place to be.
Anyone born or raised in St. Louis has an internal magnet that eventually pulls them back home. I've seen it happen countless times. I'm feeling the pull myself
Yes, why, yes, that would be correct...either that or Florida (there's your warm). I hear they are attempting something like dog training capital of the world...
I don't have a problem with Florida, and just based on how many Floridians are on this board, it must be heavy with dog training! My husband, however, would probably burst into flames. He nixed the Florida idea. However, as I started typing this, it started snowing for the first time this year. Florida is starting to look better and better.
