OFAed my female. A BRT, people cared to know the last time so much. She's got Fair. She weighs about 70 lbs, and is barely in the standard on the small side. Are there things that I should or not do in order to prevent problems in the future. She runs close to daily. Only a few miles, but she can't handle anything heavier than that. Especially in the summer. We do a couple of jumps a day. I can't think of a place to take her swimming. She hates open water and the hell would freeze over before she retrieves anything. She would probably wollow me in a boat. Neither do I trust the water quality in ponds and lakes around here. The ocean is off limits, plus the surf would probably off her.
Should I run her more or less, stop jumping, etc. ?
I looked at the OFA info I have, and about 1/3 of the BRT's that had been evaluated were fair. The other 2/3 were good. So that is right in the general area for the breed. Not as good as we would like, but in the general area for the breed. Those figures were from 2001.

As to the OFA stats on BRT's, they are totally unrepresentative. Just a few percent of the whole population are listed as normal. We don't know what's going on in all the hundreds untested dogs. And we do not know how many tested displastic. And the share of BRT's that are used in breeding are a lot higher than in most other, more popular, working breeds. Therefore we can't even extrapolate using rott or giant stats. That's besides the fact that it would be unscientific anyway.
Hi Guys,
We now have 29 BRT`s in OZ of which 11 are old enough and have had hip scores done. So far so good, 10 scores between 6-16 (OFA good)and one fair. All elbows 0/0 and great temperaments, some starting Ob/agility comps and doing well and some tracking but not competing yet.
Dot
Alex I sell my puppies on the condition that they are ob trained, properly socialised and hip scored when old enough and are not to be used for breeding if the scores are 17 or over. It`s tough, but that way we know we are doing everything possible to get the breed off to a good start here.
Dot
I agree with Dot. If my bitch's hip and elbows score well enough next month, the price of an OFA evaluation will be included in the puppy price. Once the pups are 2 if the people will send me a copy of the OFA evaluation I will refund the cost of it. I really think it is that important. I would rather make a little less, and have the info.

Hey there Mr. or Mrs. Doomsday, if you are so worried about the quality of the evaluation then go get the x-rays done again and take both sets to an orthopedic specialist to get a second opinion.
