I was searching,but I wasn´t found anything!
So,what is your opinion...which breed(or few breeds)are best for guard work(for object or/and people guard)?
I know that´s maybe generalization, but I´m curious and I know here I can get some opinions!
For me,best guard dog breeds are:rottweiler, cane corso and beacuseron(I´ll be happy when you will give me your opinion about that breed....why aren´t they popular as guard dog...they are really fast and agile,sharp...)?Dobermanns can´t be uotside when it is cold, malinois I don´t like beacuse they are to weak for me(and I think they can´t get man down)!
Thank You a lot,Vedran

German Shepherds, Belgian Malinois and Dutch Shepherds. The End.
As for a Malinois not being able to take a man down and being weak, you have alot to learn and alot to experience if you can make a statement like that.

I disagree with you about Malinois not taking a man down or being too weak. Why would police and military units use them if they couldn't stop a man. I have seen a large man on dope ripped up by a Malinois. The guy put up a fight but the dog and his police partner won. In my opinion, Malinois,GSD and if you can find a good smaller Rottweiler those would be my choice for guard work. I prefer speed and tenacity to size.

There is one more thing why I don´t like malinois....here in my town are lots of dominant and agressive dogs like dogo argentino, some rottweilers....and I´m worried if some of them attack malinois!!
Second reason is I love mollos beacuse few good trainers said to me that mollos(cane corso, rottweiler)are better for guard work beacuse of they NATURAL terittorial and defence drive, and if I will takeing shepherd that I should buy beauceron beacuse he has drives like malinois but is a bit bigger and stronger so I shouldn´t worried if some of that dogs attack my dog!
Yes,I was wrong when I was say that malinois can´t get man down,I was think that some other breeds can get man better down(but they are no so fast and if malinois take man down from run it is same thing),and I love bigger dogs like rotts and cane corsos, beaucerons but I want dog that will have prey drive as close as much to malinois?
So what breed do you recommend to me?
Sorry for wrong information!
Vedran, and sorry for my english,I hope that you understand me!

What about a Giant Schnauzer? From the ones I have seen (which were few), they can be great dogs for what you want.
I personally like the Mal and the Dutch.
Their tenacity, willingness to please and courage are the traits I like best. They keep trying til they get it right.

Regardless of the breed you choose, the dog needs to be protected from being "attacked" or you could end up with a dead dog, huge vet bills or a very dog-aggressive-dog yourself. Just to name a few -

I still like my Dobes. It's hard to find a good one for protection work, I'll admit; but they are naturally good guard dogs, fast as lightening, super easy to train, and loyal and tenacious as all hell. Mine have also been very strong and fearless, and very 'tuned in' to me. I've got some very good stories/experiences that keep me enthralled by this breed.

i second the giant schnauzer.
but i have a thing for dogs with beards.....
i think these dogs are underestimated by people who don't know the breed, and that could or could not work to your advantage. Also, a breed i will breed and work in the future, the Black Russian Terrier, rottie/gt. schnauzer/other mix is a powerhouse. I don't know how easy it would be to find one, but research is always free.
I am not sure about dogos and corsos, if their temperaments are more mastiffy or more bully breed like, so their guarding ability is fine, but the protection don't really trust. They are huge, and would be scary, but i don't know how they would be in action.

This is true. The German Shepherds are quite nihilistic, prone to depression and cut themselves for attention.

Yeah Peggy, thats what jump out at me too. Needs a dog that can hold his own? Vedran, You want this dog to protect you from.....other dogs? Is this animal to be a pet/companion or a straight ahead home guardian? Or is he for fun and games on the street corner?
Pointed questions to be sure, but the answers will help us decide, at least in our minds, a good match.
