OK, my puppy Rush is 14 weeks old and he has been going snowshoeing with me once a day. He has NO under coat yet, and if the temps are below 15 or so, with all the deep snow we have he gets so cold he doesn't want to continue. I bought him a cheap, clearance sweater vest type doggie coat at the local Fleet Farm for 2 bucks but he's already outgrown it. I put it on him today for our walk, but it's a bit tight in the armpits so he's not real thrilled with it. It's a high of 7 here today with brisk wind and wind chills around 10 below zero.
does anyone know where I can get a cheap winter coat for him? I checked Wally World and all the local places but their sizes are all too small. A Malinois puppy that doesn't get out to exercise is a dangerous thing, but he's painfully uncomfortable when the temps get so low...
I have seen horse blanket turnout type coats, and I think that would work best but the few I found were pretty pricey. He's going to outgrow it quickly so I am looking for economy more than style.
Any help would be appreciated!

What about PetSmart or Petco and the clearance rack of "Holiday" wear?
I found a small "beagle" size for Em at our PetSmart and it was $10.59, it is a little big, but I would rather deal with making it smaller rather than the teeth from too much energy.....
Ember gets cold and just sits there so I have to pick her up and put her inside my jacket.

I got some coats to fit my adult Catahoulas at Tami's - I hear the Gap also carries some, in various sizes. You can buy sweaters at Super Pet.
I myself and at least one other person I know - have actually made our own doggie coats. I used fun fur (turned inside out with the fur against their fur) with Velcro straps, the other person used fleece again with Velcro straps.

i have actually gone to walmart, or the dollar store and got a sweatshirt or hoodie.
I went home, cut the sleeves, tucked up the tummy area, or it hangs really low.
I had to do this when i went to stay with a friend and she lives in the woods, and it was hunting season. I didn't think the orange collars would cut it, so i got some halloween childrens sweaters, and wala!!
to adjust the belly area, you can attach a snap(like on some collars), fabric glue on some velcro, or make a button hole.
i like using the hoodies or sweaters because i can play with them for the perfect fit, they can be as colorful or plain as you want and you can get several for a few bucks, if you go to a dollar store.
mine don't mind me putting things over their heads, but if your does, i think some small hoodies have zippers, or you can just cut it.

that's what i was thinking - could you go to value village or a second hand store and either use/modify some children's sweaters?

I got good deals at Pet co and Petsmart. they had some that were water repellent too, so we could go out in the rain. I paid about 10-15 dollars for Bindi and Cody's coats.
Hope you find what you are looking for. BRRRRRRR.. it sounds so cold out there where you are!!!!

You can check out SmartPak Equine sometimes you can find stuff in the clearance section too! Oh in the clearence section make sure you click on the product to see the reduced price....I hate that about the site.

I got my dogs the coats there since they are more reasonable then most places. I don't want to spend as much on my dog blankets as I do on my horse blankets for 1/3 of the material.
Good Luck

just watched Rush's videos, he is a little dream...I loved the way he pranched around with the "prey" in his mouth, looking around to see if anyone saw him!!!
He reminds me of my Cody, he loves to investigate things and when Rush runs back to you, that little run and hop and sit at the end is just like my little cody!
You are very blessed, he is a beautiful little pup! I bet he grows up to be a great dog in whatever area you use him for.
The way he ran through the tunnel with the bottles to get that prey is really something!
God bless you and your goals with this little guy.

Thanks for all the input, I just ordered Rush a little fleece blanket coat at 1/2 price from SmartPak Equine.
I'm all about internet shopping.

I guess I'm too late, but don't laugh. I bought a ton of coats from Old Navy. They actually snap up the front and cover the whole chest (which my APBTs love) instead of being blanket-types. And, they're CHEAP. I've used one for 2 years now on Calamity Jane (Mia) and she hasn't managed to trash it yet. They come in several sizes, much larger than I could ever find at a pet store.
