This is absolutely ridiculous!! When i had Levi who was dark copper and white with ice blue eyes a few younger kids would every so often ask me if he was a wolf...i would explain that he was a Siberian Husky, like from Snow Dogs or 8 Below.
Well this new puppy..Shadow (we think) isnt your typical starkly contrasted red and white or black/grey and white Husky. He is a beautiful fawn color with a cream mask and underside and grey tipped guard hairs coming in. He also has a dark brown nose, paws and eyes. Once grow he will either be what they call Sable or Wolf grey, a tricky distinction at best. sable wolf grey
Right now he is all ears and legs and feet and yes he does howl and chortle and chatter. and There have been several people who are quite knowledgable in Canines both wild domestic and hybrid that have said he looks more than a little wolfy key word being looks...I agree. But that doesnt mean he is.
I would never dream of purchasing a hybrid other than in the far flung future to do rescue and sanctuary work with them.
So today animal control investigators showed up. Responding to a report of a wolf or wolf hybrid being kept in the city limits. Thank goodness the house was clean, the yard recently pooper scooped and all random assortment of hoarded goods collected from the back yard. I had everyones rabies records and the papers from the vet explaining why nico was not spayed and had not had her yearly shots for the last 7 years along with her titers.
But I threw away the registration papers the "breeder" gave us for puppy. They werent AKC; and at the time with his floppy ears and awful coat I wasnt convinced he was actually a full husky even seeing both parents on site. So really I had no proof of the little guys heritage or breed.
Thankfully the lady and man were nice enough and i let them know that I also reported the breeder and gave them the info so they could cross reference that. Im sure the 2 35 lb bags of solid gold Wolfcub food, the basket full of toys, dog beds, and the box that had brushes, ear medicine, the cats antibiotics, nail clippers etc in it let them know i was a responsible owner and knew what i was talking about helped.
But it really rattled me.
I really hope this isnt going to be a problem in the future and i dont know what to do about not having any sort of registration or proof that he is 100% dog.
Oh, lovely. Lucky you. Sorry, can't really help you but wanted to offer some support. That's tough. Esp. b/c you admit he looks a bit odd.
On a lighter, humorous note, I once had someone call their neighbors and warn them not to go outside until the police got there because there was a huge wolf on their porch. Seems Caleb got tired of waiting in the car for me and climbed out, walked to the house I was in, and waited on the porch. Luckily the cops had a good sense of humor.
hahaha, people keep telling my dog Bart(gsd/schnauzer, like 45 lbs) looks like a wolf hybrid(which he looks far from it), i can't imagine if i had your dog.
can you do that dog dna test? i know it doesn't cover even a fraction of the breeds, but is husky one of them? or get your vet to write a statement or something.
If I found a Siberian that looked just like a wolf, I would have to have it! LOL I have a wolf fetish! I wish wolves and wolf hybrids were not so dangerous *pouts* they are just too pretty. As a child I used to think I would one day own a wolf, then I grew up and realized that it isn't practical, safe, or fair to the wolf. A husky that looks like a wolf, however ... *grins* Maybe someday :-P
A lot of people wouldn't know a wolf from a sable GSD if they bite them on the butt...........
LOL. That's my signature saying, but I'm usually talking about people knowing a true Pit Bull.
Yes, people who are totally uninformed seem to be amongst the most vocal of individuals.
