I am about to take a class with Bella for the CGC, and I would like input on some answers the trainer gave me to some of my questions.
1. He really wants my girlfriend to take the class and handle the dog. I asked what the point of that was, and he told me it was to get the dog to listen to her as well as me. Cool. Then, I asked if my GF would be above the dog in the dog's mind, and he told me they would be even in rank to the dog. Does this sound good or bad?
2. I told him my dog is nervous and somewhat agressive to other dogs, and he told me that what he does for those dogs, is take the dog that is agressive and put it in a down in front of the other dog. How about that?
I have to say, he says alot of the right things when I am on the phone with him, talking about his method of training. He uses prongs, he uses food to motivate during learning, in the class he was doing different things to distract the dogs, and he talked about pack structure. I just felt it was important to ask about these things before being there...
Rick, you're smarter than this, I know that you're asking here because the trainers answer's sound wrong.
Well, you're right, in question one........ having a family member *even* in rank with a dog?
And what is the trainer trying to accomplish with that manuever...placing the dog in a submissive position and hoping for the best?
If the guy was talking about pack structure with you yet indicated he was trying to get family members on an *even* rank to your dog, well, that's not a place that I'd train at, that's for sure.
I am not sure, I just wanted to see if there was going to be someone out there that would have anything to add. I will call the trainer and tell him I won't be going there. Thanks, you two...
Well heck! While she's there ask him if he can get them both to sit, lay down and speak on command! LMBO!! This form of training could come in handy! My husband needs some more work!! Where do I sign??
