We're at the early stages of training, with find and bark...
Xena is up for the task, and is very enthusiastic...
However, she's 20 times better ON lead than OFF..
When she is OFF lead, she is reluctant to bark and will instead simply jump up at the decoy, or shoulder charge him..or the odd nip at arm or hand...
Any thoughts, views, tips, surefire methods etc.. I'm all ears....
Here's a quick clip;

The Ball, which the decoy is shielding/holding with both hands.

Although I'm a police officer, the dog is my private PPD.
The search for persons is included in some competition/trials that I'm training for.
In addition, as a PPD, the search for persons I would like to include for the return home scenario- to find gate insecure etc..
Your views and opinions Kevin are most welcome... I have always enjoyed your posts and value what you have to say...
Regards from the UK
Gary

OK,
I don't know the customs and trials rules in the UK.
but, i spend a lot of time teaching sport dogs as well.
I am a fan of a serious guard and bark. But, if that is not the custom then my suggestion after looking at the tape is to work with the decoy behind a barrier for a while such as a fence. I would use a toy on a line to play tug over the fence until the barking is secure. Then return to the decoy being in the open. If using a toy i would have the decoy make the correction for jumping up upon or nipping. A toe in the chest generally suffices.

I was going to suggest that your helper was the one who needed training first... In your first vid, the helper is hopping around like a jack in the box and making direct eye contact with the dog. Not a big deal for a trained up and reliable dog, but not what I would want from my helper in the early stages of the training. Your second helper does a much better job and you can clearly see the result in your dog.
I sleep very well at night, for I know on my roof is a paratrooper who can hit anything he aims at.
