We all know that raw feeding produces a nice glossy coat.
What about undercoat? I have noticed that my dog's undercoat is not as fluffy or full as his siblings that are kibble fed. Now that could be coincidence and his coat is just not as full. You would think the fact that mine is the only one that works outside in the winter he would be at an advantage however.
I think I have heard elsewhere that dogs on raw do not blow coat as much, and that they carry less undercoat. Anyone else notice this? Or am I making stuff up in my head
Any natural food sources known to promote undercoat growth?
Yeah I have noticed this too.. even with dogs on a grain free kibble or the dehydrated raw. Definitely shed less though for the whooly husky we had less was still a massive amount.
I agree considering Bayley has Husky in her, she has very little undercoat or fluff (as I call it) She's been eating raw since last summer. She doesn't seem to mind the cold either, we were out today for a walk and it was -15 C, didn't seem to bother her at all. Doing her usual running and digging in the snow. She seemed to have more last winter when she was eating kibble.
I sure wish my dogs would get with the program here!!! We've been totally raw for over a year and natural/home-made for 10 years or more.....raw does seem to give their coats a lovely gloss but as far as shedding goes....well it's a good thing I needle-felt! My dogs could be part sheep though......maybe I should just shear them!
Two gsd's and 1 sheltie mix....all double-coated......nice long fluffy wooly hairballs everywhere.....all year...........
I'm not complaining, really I'm not......I am immune to animal hair!
Strange and you live in a warm part of the world..well warm compared to where I am Some areas of Ontario have issued wind chill alerts...such fun when out walking
ok now the other people who have noticed a lack of winter wool also live in a colder climate, that's very interesting. I know someone else on another forum who feeds her dogs raw, I'll have to pose the same question there and see if she's noticed a difference in winter coats
PS I was in Austin once years ago in January...so nice and it was sooo cold when I got back to Ontario!!
