I am new to this group and site. I have a 7.5 mo old Topbrass Golden puppy( translate very smart ,prey driven and olympic athlete).
I have seen a fake sheepskin rug on this sight and a brief statement about the advisability of teaching the PLACE command. Can any of you tell me what place means and how to teach it?
Suzie G. and Topbrass Magnificent Maggie (call name Maggie)
Does place mean a long down stay on the rug until you release them or are they allowed do to move around on the rug.(ex.stand up,turn around change position-as long as they stay on the rug? until released-some people call this putting them on a CLIMB?
Thats what it means for me, basically it means go lay on your bed, generally they then go to sleep and i allow them to get comfortable as long as most of them is on their bed.
heads, legs, tails, and sometimes half a body hangs off...but they are big dogs so close enough!
Right now Nico my big old girl has all four feet on her bed, but the rest of her is on the floor next to it...
But it comes in handy to have them go to their place on command for when we are at other houses, or out of town with them. Usually we take their beds with us, but if we cant a towel on the floor for each dog works as well. They make the connection on their own to any mat or towel on the floor being their place.
Out means out of my immediate area to anywhere but in my face!, or out of the room if we say out of the kitchen, or out of the room. They stay out until asked back in.

What do you want it to mean?
"Place" means get on your bed and stay there until I release you with most of my dogs. If they break, we do it again.
"Place" for Ember is "stand between my legs and look up at me".
I will use "rest" or something else for her to lay down and be quiet when she is ready for that.
Any word you choose as a command can mean anything you want it too really.
