 Use of double handled bite bar, when?

I have bought some dvds along with training material because later on when I find an experienced helper/trainer I want to do the training as shown in "the 1rst steps of bite" and "the 1rst steps of defense". One of these items is the double handled bite bar (seemed handy). What exactly is this item used for, at what point in the training should this be used?
I bought the hard arm also. The material seems very hard though, (which is not the case with the hidden sleeve) should this be safe to use on my dog, considering this will be used by an experienced helper?

Has he been on the softer sleeves as well? Like the Intermediate or Young Dog Sleeve?
Not sure I would start out with a hard arm.....but I could be wrong...there is a thread that is fairly recent that discusses this, I am trying to find it for you....

We use ours as we do a tug that has the ability to slip over my arm for some tug work. It is a great to start the transition to a sleeve and the handles are, well, handy!  
My Rotts get to play with them starting around six months. My criteria, only after teething, when the mouth is big enough to fit on it, and neck can hold up the weight.

I guess I follow the "recommendations" on the LB Sleeve page. But since I am newer to all of the bite work stuff and have not had a chance to view in depth all of the DVD's sitting here, I may be incorrect.
I will say, I am glad I got the Intermediate sleeve though since Jesea was leaving some serious bruises with the young dog sleeve.....I am pretty sure she may be ready for the hard sleeve. She was on one last year at a police dog conference and I need to get with ED and buy a good one. May do that next week when I get there.

Carol, I was responding to the title of the post, "Use of double handled bite bar, when?" in my response, not to your mention of the hard sleve . (I was typing as you were, and didn't even see your post...)
If this is a sleeve progresion post, then it goes:
Rag (leather, jute, etc for a young pup and then later for drive building)
Tugs (of the size appropriate for the dogs mouth)
Soft Sleve (some are stiffer than others and are for different levels of bite strength or some can be used as a hidden sleeve)
Hard Sleve (again, some have a little more "give" than others for beginning to advanced dogs.)
Hidden Sleeve (much like a soft sleeve but with a lower profile. Used to finish a PPD or a PSD.)
Oh yeah, and the bite bar is used while in the tug and soft sleeve stage. And the rag, tug/ball-on-a-string (to me, they are used at the same time and I go back and forth), and bite bar can be used all through training and finishwork. Don't be afraid to go back to play!

No, I have not started with the bite training yet, I am still busy with dvd BDFG (with the tug/ball on a string), will continue with dvd Prep. your dog for the helper, and will look for an exper.helper before starting with dvd the 1rst Steps of Bite. So I will not need this piece of equipment yet. But I still wondered when it would be used.
Do you mean Bill Rambeau's post? I have read that one. Because of that one, I was thinking about getting the intermediate soft sleeve by the time I start the Bite training.

Got the rag, tug, hard arm and hidden sleeve. I am thinking about buying the intermediate soft sleeve (because this one can also be used on adult dogs like mine), but where does the double handled bar fit in?

Sorry I edited my post to address that. But like I said in my first post, it is a great way to go from tug to soft sleeve. It is smaller and easier to handle, can be "thrown around" if you will. Not so easy to do with a sleeve of any kind.
I still use it for my PPD two or three times a week.

Aha, .. now I see your answer, thanks...This bite bar should be used between the tugs and the soft sleeve, I see. So the arm should go through the bar. Does that mean that the bar should not be held with both hands on the handles on both sides?
