these 2 pups, they are so noisy in their crates.
it's not really a whining to get out-every minute or so-they moan or something.
Then when they do want out-brook flat out growls at me. sonny just whines.
for the general noise(non wanting out noise)-what can i do?
my other dogs are just really quiet in crates, and i guess i am not used to them being so vocal.
any tips?

I bet they will settle down when they are little older and healthier. It hasn't been very long since they were at death's door. They are still adjusting to all this new stuff.
I bet they will be much more quiet in a month.
I don't think it's a good idea to let Brook out when she growls at you to let her out. She is being pushy and dominant about it and she's bound to get worse if you let her get away with it.

Mallory - I also have a very vocal puppy. He has gotten a little better as he gets older, but still vocal. So if anybody knows how to control such a thing let me know too It does drive a person crazy!

oh-i only let ANY of my dogs out on my terms-no matter how much they protest.
Their crates are in my living room-and brooke will stare at me-and growl and bark when she doesn;t want to be there-but i don't let her out when she does that.

I know it sounds kind of cookie trainerish but a squirt bottle can be a great tool to correct for a behavior in puppies(or small dogs) without having to touch them or give them any verbal attention. Aim for the face or base of the ears if you use plain water. If their back is turned aim for under the tail. Some people use vinegar in it but out of all the dogs we have in doggy day camp only a few won't back off from a well aimed squirt or three with plain water. You want a quick sharp squirt to interrupt the behavior not a mist and not for them just to get wet.
Some of the more experienced members of the board can chime in or whether this should be corrected but I think the growling should be. They can scream and moan as much as they want to but growling isn't acceptable to me no matter where the dog is.

Ditto.
No attention at all to noise in the crates. Attention = reward.
Are they also making the noise at each other?

yes-part of it is them feeding off eachothers noise.
when i m all moved(in about a week)i will have them in different rooms-but for now-their only option with my tiny space is their crates stacked on top of eachother.
plus, if my tv is off, and i turn it on-they start barking. If i have been still for a while on the couch-and i move, they start barking. If the cat walks by-they start up-i answer the phone-they start it up.
I don't give any attention to them at all when they do this-i don't even yell(my others would get a loud "shut it"). Nothing.i totally ignore it-but well-since they are little, they are yappy-and i can't ignore yappy but for so long-ask the chihuahua!

Mallory: these are the little ones who were kept in a tiny cage and not fed right? I wonder, not saying this is it, just wondering, if never being let out of the cage at their previous owners (hate to even use the word owners)and being left even to the point of starving, could they associate the crate with being back in the little cage? If so, I bet in time they will see that they won't have to remain in there forever and you will let them out, and they will calm down. It is good you do not respond to their noise by letting them out. I ignore my dogs when they make noise and that always seems to work. When they are very quiet, then I let them out when it is time. I was just wondering if their past experiences in the cage will take time to wear off.
Your pictures are so cute!

possibly.
when they are out, they just either play, or sleep.
when i do let them out together, or even separate, they do the cutest thing!
they wedge themselves between my back-and the chair/couch. Or if i am sitting on the floor against the wall, they cram themselves there.
Both of them. They sleep contently that way, all cuddly!
i will have them loose in just the living room, and before you know it, they are fast asleep in their little nook.
so should i wait them out with the noise making-or start correcting them now?
they make the constant moaning noises no matter where they are sleeping-so i don't know that that part is crate related. But the whole "mallory moved! sound the alarm" nonsense is getting old.
they get the whole pack riled up, though the others will stop when i tell them too.

I have a noisy pup too
he doesnt just bark he chortles and grunts and makes flooded engine sounds and howls and whoos
I shoosh barking and totally ignore crate whining
but the others I do my best to ignore, although it is hard to keep a straight face for a lot of it.
Loki is pretty vocal too so I have just learned to live with it
I can handle it all except for the constant barking...that drives me batty
