We are selling our house. moving to a rental for a year or two, and I have to put in an underground fence for the dogs (two GSD). I currently use dogtra collars for training, which have vibrating alert. The only underground fence that offers a handheld training transmitter is Innotek, which has tome alert. Shoudl I just make the switch, or does anyone have any oher suggstions. Seems awkward tohave two electric collars on each dog, one for training, one for fence. Thanks!
I also have the underground fences. When my boxer was little the trainer I used said not tpo use the IF and e collar because it would confuse the dog? I am starting to wonder if this is true?
In your situation, what about getting one of those new collars being offered on the Leerburg site. Couldn't you put both devices on the same collar?

Unfortunately, you cannot. I have been on the phone with all the Co's and you need to have separate collars. Dumb uh?
Michael;
I don't use a hand held for the inground, seems unnecessary. The
stimulation is completely different. I would not introduce both
collars at the same time. The methodology that I use introduces the e collar in obedience, in a positive way, along with a primary reinforcer. I also would caution you to take your dog's temperment into consideration when teaching an invisible fence also. My thoughts on this type of fence that sometimes it gives people a false sense of security. For instance, a rabbit can run thru your yard, the dog will pursue the rabbit because of prey drive, take the "hit" and then not return to the yard because the prey drive drops after the rabbit is removed from the situation. It is just as easy to let the dog outside with
an e collar,, watch the dog,,,,,and call your dog......having a great recall.......same rabbit, same situation, but you can change the level of stimulation according to the dog and his drive. Just a thought.
