i am starting my search for a real, show/working quality APBT puppy. Now-i don't plan on getting one for a while-maybe in 2 years or so, but i am looking for breeders now.
It's hard enough to find a apbt breeder who isn't breeding 100+lb dogs that are grossly too wide etc.
But i am looking for a breeder that feeds raw-and doesn't vaccinate.
i have been told "why not just get a pup-and switch it over-and not get it shots"-but i really want my pup to not even have that stuff in it's system.I want the dam/sire to be raw fed/vaccine free too......
My 7 mo old, 40lb, is unvaccinated, raw-fed, second generation. Unfortunately, while he is extremely well-bred, his papers are not available to me. The "breeders" are really idiots who happened upon some phenomenal dogs, but they are well-meaning and had a dog die of vaccinosis, so they gave the pups no shots. Yahoo! Simon was an accident, and now the dam is pregnant again! BUT-my point is that you are almost better off w/a small or hobby breeder than a big breeder when it comes to Pits.
I think that's going to be a tough task, unless like Jenni, you happen to stumble accross someone. There are PB breeders around, but many who really care about the dogs do not breed anymore due to the high population of PBs already out there & being euthanized. I think the people who do breed are a very small # who breed seldomly & specifically for show/sport for their own use, or the total opposite and they are all those bone heads adverstising "HUGE HEAD, 100LB BLUE PITS" etc.
Diane doesn't breed, and says right on her site that "good" breeders are not breeding now, due to the reason's Alex stated. Her site is great.
Like everything else, they're split. Do you want a showdog or a working (or gamebred) dog? For hunting, sport, weightpull, show, etc.? Many "good" breeders will not sell puppies to "outsiders."
You would want maybe UKC and ADBA. APR allows dogs w/out peds to be registered, and the good old AKC no longer acknowledges them as a breed, although some AmStaffs are dual registered...don't get me started.

I realize Diane doesn't breed but thought Mallory would be interested in browszing this site because it explores the working possibilities of the apbt, the site is full of info on the breed and Diane is a good breed ambassador.
Also some of Diane's titled dogs are from http://www.sorrellspitbulls.com/about_us.html
Whether or not he sells to the public I don't know.
I know, Terra. I was just warning her that Diane doesn't condone ANY breeding for the public right now, and even the links on her site may be a dead-end as far as puppies/litter announcements go. Don't know this guy personally, but he has mid-size, titled Pits, at least. http://howardsworkingapbts.20fr.com/catalog_4.html
