I have heard so many bad things about petsmart/petco dog food; Eukanuba, Royal Canine, Science Diet, etc. that I'm changing to one of the better quality foods that is listed on the forum. Although, I haven't experienced anything bad having my dogs on this "crap in a bag" , but what do I know! The only thing I'm concerned about is that the change will cause diarrhea, is this possible??

My dogs get diarrhea when I switch them onto wellness (happened 3 times with different dogs). It's usually only lasts 3-4 days. It *might* also have been caused by overfeeding (because you don't have to feed as much of the good quality food, and I probably unthinkingly fed the same amount at first).
You may not have experienced anything "bad" but you also probably have not seen anything good either. You will notice less poop, a shinier coat, and maybe more energy.
I have fed crap in a bag, Wellness, Innova, and raw. I have seen the best results with raw, followed by Wellness. I personally wasn't all that impressed with Innova (I used regular Innova, not Evo).

You can make the switch gradual, replacing part of the old food with the new food, etc.

Angela and Connie - thanks for your advice. I didn't want to deal with diarrhea, but if I see better results it will be worth it. Connie, I've heard that it'll help to feed them the new stuff gradually, in with the old. I wouldn't have thought of it, thanks!
Angela, you say innova is bad, what do you think of Canidae? I think that's how you spell it. Any advice on what's good in a bag will be appreciated!

Is there a reason you don't want to feed a raw diet Cari?

I don't know much about raw diet feeding. I'm assuming it's cooked people food , or is it actually raw? I know this probably sounds dumb to a lot of you, sorry!

Raw, not cooked. Take a look at the sample leerburg diet here to get the Idea.

raw is actually raw - hey, you don't have to cook it!
i personally had a bad experience w/innova evo - cats and dogs - it made everyone runny. i feed the dogs raw but got it so i could give luc a cheaper snack mid-day, but it definitely didn't agree.
i give the cats wellness core (grain-free) and am impressed with the food, but don't have any dog experience with it.
raw is easier than you think. there's lots of good books out there on it, i have the BARF diet (well, actually, i long-term borrowed it from a friend). i also started on raw w/a store-bought prepared raw diet, which made me more comfortable, and then i just gradually switched in to a raw diet that i did totally.
Teagan!

Jennifer-the store bought prepared raw diet sounds easy enough, maybe I'll look into it and try that. Like I said earlier, I'm not experiencing any real problems with the bad stuff , but thought I'd try some of the good quality food I keep hearing about. I'd like to see less poop and a prettier coat
Thanks for the advice and suggestions!
