i'm moving and will have a yard. we'll have neighbouring dogs, and teagan is dog/dominant aggressive.
i'd wondered about getting her an e-collar, to work w/that, and then cindy suggested it for indoors and her prey aggression w/my small animals ( http://www.leerburg.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=180046&page=0#Post180046 )
i know the collars can trigger more aggression in certain scenarios.
is it worthwhile getting a collar for both issues? should i just use it to teach her manners w/the cats/rabbits/guinea pigs?
i should note a lot of her dominance issues w/respect to me have hugely improved, so i don't think i'd use it for that. i haven't had any other issues with her exhibiting human aggression except for once when i decided to try walking her on the flat collar and she went all out at some guy - we're back to the prong....
i'm going to go do some more reading on e-collars - just wondering if it's a good idea to work on her outside w/the neighbouring dog once we move, b/c not to be negative, but she will show aggression towards it and i could see her trying to initiate a fence fight. i was going to work on her w/a prong etc (generally fine though in the past if i was a bit late on the correction it has triggered her higher)? if she does show a dominance issue, b/c it does pop on occasion, is the e-collar a good idea?
i guess i'm just not sure where it would trigger her more and where it would be okay. i'm guessing timing of corrections is a big thing here.

would the dogtra 175NCP be a good fit for her? she is a pet.
i was also thinking, as she's a long coat and has a whole mess of fur, to get the 1" contact points? thoughts??
....and i like the look of those cinch-it collars! pink, or lime green? tee hee
i wish this wasn't coming when i have all these moving expenses, but i was planning on ordering her new muzzle this week anyways....

I just bought the Dogtra 1900ncp and I LOVE it. I had been borrowing a Dogtra 1500ncp that didn't have the LCD screen, and I've gotta say I'm loving that I now have that screen. You may want to consider one of the bigger Dogtra collars for Teagan and consider getting one with the LCD. I HIGHLY recommend the DVD to go along with it too, as it shows you how the collar can be used for aggression problems (and right now it's 50% off with an e-collar purchase). Used incorrectly, the collar will absolutely escalate the aggression; used correctly, it's a Godsend. Oh, and I think Pink for the cinch-it . I had to get black because my dog is a moose and the only color large comes in .

hmmm. i was emm....just being cheap
teagan's about 65lbs, and i think pretty hard, though i don't have a huge field of comparison. the bigger collars would work better w/her you think? do the bigger collars deliver more power? i have to go read some more....
(i have a fondness for lime green, but pink would be nice and girly. my concern that my dogs be correctly gender identified is silly, i know, but....hey)
well, i asked teagan if she wants an e-collar, and the answer was....'heeeeh heeeh yes!!!!' (full disclosure: i *might* have been about to give her her favourite toy when i asked)
oh! and yay! discounted video!

the 200 gold (i think; i've already forgotten what it's called) seems to be similar. and it's lighter too. though the battery doesn't last as long - but i think maybe for my planned uses this would be okay?
http://www.leerburg.com/200ncp.htm
it also has a 1/2 mile range, which is nice.
ahh, but the 1900 is more powerful. i'm not sure how much power i'd need. perhaps versatile is better for that reason. i'm starting to confuse myself

Hehe...I was considering the "cheap" route too....I HATE spending money, but I'm glad that I didn't go cheap (though the one I bought was a pretty reasonable price). To me, the e-collar was enough of an investment that I only wanted to buy it once; had to make sure I started out with one that had the features that I wanted from the get-go. And I like more power (insert 'Tim the tool man' Taylor's grunt here;-) Because I have a big guy that's on the hard side, though he's friendly enough. Based on what I know of Teagan from other posts (she's a dominant, aggressive GSD who's kinda hard, right?) I'm thinking that bigger and more power may not be bad features. Someone else here may have more experience with such things and may feel the smaller ones are plenty though...anyone?
I think all of the Cinch-it collars are neat; all of the colors are pretty sweet .

I have the tritronics sport 50 and have never thought I needed anything stronger. I do wish it had more levels though just to find his perfect working level. That Dogtra 200 say's it has 100 levels, mine has 6 so I would think that would do the job. PM Ed or Cindy and see what they say.

I have the Dogtra 200 Gold. I have a pet dog, who is dominant but fairly soft when it comes to corrections unless it has to do with other animals (her LIVE prey drive is off the hook). I haven't used the e-collar for her animal aggression namely because I haven't bought the Leerburg DVD yet (i know, shame on me!). I bought it for her distance training and teaching off leash. It's worked wonderfully for that, and I haven't had to go over 60 for typical training (frankly, it isn't THAT strong of a collar). The MINIMUM you can go is 20, because anything before that the dog cannot feel. Ollie is almost always in the 20 stim area.
I bought mine used, but in great condition, for $100. It's worked just fine for what I needed it for, so I am very happy. Maybe if I had a harder dog or she was a working dog, I'd have something better but a 16 year old's budget is limited.

The Dogtra 200 NCP Gold would be perfectly fine for your needs, Jennifer.
I am thinking when Roni gets time, she will give her opinion also!

thanks everyone, emily, cindy, thanks for the opinions on the 200 gold. i think it's leading the short list now
....now if i can remember where i packed my measuring tape, i can measure teagan for the muzzle.
kristel, the colours are great! of course, teagan's fur will probably totally cover it, but i'll know she's got a cool collar. LOL.
