My pup pup is 12 weeks old and loves to bite my pants and my shirts, but not so much toys. I'm very new to PPD training so please bear with me. Can I use a puppie sleeve on (on myself not a helper) with pup? Can I do this and play games this way to bild drive? But I do not want him to learn to only bite the sleeve and if I start now how do I make sure that dose not happen?
Christi, 12 weeks is waaaaay too young for any kind of sleeve except a shirt sleeve. Use a tug or a bite rag to build his drive. A (puppy) sleeve shouldn't come into the picture until he's about 8-10 mos. Give or take.
Christi, the shirt sleeve was a joke lol. Don't let him chew on your shirt sleeve, it may cause bad habits. Use a bite rag, Ed sells them and explains them on that page. Or use a small tug, and put the toys away. It sounds as if his toys are readily available to him, so he becomes less interested in them, and more on your limbs. If he begins to chew on you again, redirect that towards a toy or something it's ok to chew on. Ed has a lot of good advice on his ebooks.
If I should not start using a sleeve till 8-10 months then why do you think some people have a 9 month old working with a sleeve on a helper. That seems to be to fast to me. What happens when you start a pup on a helper/sleeve to soon? Why is it bad to do it young?

The bite rag is a little thick to use with a teething pup. What we used at the seminar was (or looked like) a chammy rag that you would use to dry off your car attached to a line.
I got one for Ember to use at home since she was in full teething mode at the seminar.
Michael also used a puppy sleeve, however he never put it on. It was attached to a line and he just held it at either end when the pup got a hold of it.
Rolled towels, duct taped at the ends make great puppy tugs and toys as well.
Christi,
Is he doing better with all of the other things you have posted about? How is using the treats and rewarding for the behaviors you want and ignoring the ones you do not want?
Is potty training going better?
Until The Tale of the Lioness is told, the Story will Always Glorfy the Hunter
I put his toys away unless I'm playing with him. Thay don't just lay around. Ever seens I got him he has not really paid any attention to any toys. He likes a rag for about 1 min. I have a tug but it's a bad on, very slick and hard for him to hold on ti it. I orderd a puppie tug from LB but it has not come it should be here in a day or two and than I will try that. He likes a really likes a kong but with that, the same thing with anyother toy he will chais it and pouns on it, grab it and than let it go and just walk away. Even if he's really exited and we are both having lots of fun he still will drop it right after he gets it and than come running back to me. He will never bring the tot to me nor will he take it and run. It's like ones he kills it the game is over. I don't know why he dose this.
Carol: I think we wher tiping it the some time, so in reply to you. I'll try that with the rag. Thanks for the tip.
Also, potty training is going much better, thanks to all your help. I'm still working on the pack leader stuff, I orderd the video on it but I don't have it, it should be here soon. I kept him in his crate for a few days (exept for eating, potty and some training time.) and I think that really helped. But he's crazy when I get him out. He's doing much better on not jumping up. I also ordered the fist steps to bite training and the drive and focus videos. I'm very exited.
Marker training is going very good and fun. His OB is doing ok. I feel that we are behind, but I'm not sure what he SHOULD know at this age, so maby it's just a feeling of mine. Can you tell me what most pups at 12 weeks know so I can get an idea of were we are. Thanks.
I'm starting to have lots of fun with him. His ears are up now, Yaayyyyy!!!!
Can you help me with another post I have up right now on training him to bark. Sorry I don't know how to link. It's under puppie corner>training puppies>
