My puppie has had pudding diarrhea for some time now. We have gone from kibble to raw, also doing lots of training with him and so I was thinking that It may have been just stress. Yesterday and to day I gave him some pumpkin. But I just came home and he had pooped diarrhea in his crate that was like water and he threw-up. there did not seem to be anything wrong with him all day. The only thing that was not normal was I gave him an egg. Would that make him this sick? Normaly I would just let it play out but he has had diarrhea for a long time now and than just one day it gets this bad. Do you think it was the egg and it will just go away? Or should I take him in? My vet is not open till monday. What is the best way to handle this?

I wish Connie was online. she helped me a lto when my dog was sick. They had diagnosed him with enteritis. I'll try
What kind of dog and how old?
How long has he been on raw?
Is he continuing to throw up, or acting like he needs to throw up, but can't?
do you know the symtoms of bloat? I will find the link and post that for you.
Is he drinking at all? How does his hydration seem? Are his gums moist or dry? When you press on them do they immediately return to pink?

Is he pacing or acting restless or in pain?
Is there any blood on the stool of vomit?
Do you have any pedialite?
You can make your own electrolyte solution instead of buying pedialyte, here is AmberTechs recipe:
1/2 gal water
1/2 cup oats
1 tsp salt
1/3 cup honey
Boil water, add oats, salt, honey. Let sit 20 min. then strain off oats.
However, remember that we don't give sugar (including honey) when there's severe diarrhea. Sugar- and salt-heavy foods can exacerbate diarrhea in dogs. Also high-fat foods (which to me is anything that's over 10 or 15% fat).

He is a GSD and he's 12 weeks old.
He's been on raw for about 4 weeks.
He's not trying to throw up at all that I have seen, it was just in his crate when I got him. I was only gone about 2 hours.
I do not know anything about bloat.
All day he was drinking just fine. He dose not want to drink much raght now, but he did some.
His gums are ok-moist (not as much as I would like, but ok) and good and pink.

Thanks for the bloat link, but it dose not seem to be that.
He's very calm and laid back right now, not in a bad way but he just seems like his tummy herts.
Hi will get up and move and get out of his crate just fine but I can tell that he would like to just lay there.

make sure you keep him hydrated, bait his water with chicken if you have too (boil a little bit of breast/meat in water) or stir a little plain yogurt into it. Don't try to get him to eat yet. Rad the signs of bloat. If he bloats, you don't have a lot of time.
Do you know where the Emergency vet is, just in case?
Do you give him yogurt?
No blood in the stool?
How is he acting? any pacing or whining? Do you have any gas-X? It can help if he is bloating, but right now it doesn't sound like it.
I'm no expert by any means, but went through a terrible time with my dog a couple of months ago. We still think it may have been mild bloat that resolved itself, in spite of an incompetent vet.

sorry, posting at the same time! I really don't think it was the egg. He may have giardia or some other infection going on, I don't know. The only way to know would be to go to the vet.
I would watch him very close, keep him hydrated, and try to find a vet open tomorrow. We have several in our town that are open on saturday mornings.
And if he is feeling better, I would put him on well cooked rice with chichen breast meat for a while until his diarhea clears up. Canned pumpkin helps too, as well as yogurt. But not until he is feeling better, or sees a vet.

Thank you so much. I will do the water thing.
He's acting well. Right now he's sleeping in his crate.
I have not given him yogert, should I? I don't know much about feeding dogs yogert, can you give me some info on it please?
I can't see any blood in his stool.
I will locate the e-vet in case. I don't have gas-X, I have pepto bismul, can I use that?
