This question might have already been answered in another thread. If it has please direct me to it. As some of you may know my family and I are preparing to bring a GSD puppy into our home around April/May. We are doing extensive research and want to feed our dog raw. I just have a question about when you bring an 8 week puppy into your home and it has not been fed raw. If you want to immediately start the puppy on raw what is the best way to do it? I assume you would not start off with organ meat but just RMB. Is this correct? I think I read somewhere Connie saying that chicken backs is a good RMB to start your dog off on. Would you also say this is true for puppies. And what is the purpose of adding fish oil to the dog's diet? I just wanted to hear examples of what the members fed their puppy when they first brought them home. Especially if they weren't fed raw beforehand.
Connie can best explain the need for Salmon oil AND vitamin E so I hope she sees this and chimes in.
I switched my pup to raw cold-turkey at about 6-7 months of age. His first raw meal was chicken backs and he loved them. I did use digestive enzymes/probiotics before, during, and after the switch to help his tummy adjust.

I fed them whole so he wouldn't gulp chunks of them down. He was older so he pretty much inhaled them anyway but with a small pup gulping might be more difficult to do.
There are some great member photos (Yuko Blum & Jenni Williams)of small pups eating good-sized RMBs.
Is there a simple way to find these pics? I have gone thru what seems to be gazillion pictures now and cant's find them. I saw the one of Yuko's dog with the deer head but can't seem to find Jenn's or anything with small dogs and meat.

So, Shannon were you feeding them solely RMBs and nothing else in the beginning, i.e. organ meat, veggies etc.? And Mallory is right they are adorable. They almost made me say, "GSD?"
