i have called every butcher shop and slaughterhouse and processing placein this half of the state looking for green tripe and/or scraps.
All i get is "it's illegal to sell that stuff".
I really don't believe that-but even if that is the case-it's not just illegal in NC-it would have to be illegal in other states too-one person said it is illegal in EVERY STATE.
Where are you guys getting this stuff?
I am so frustrated. It seems like if it is from anyother animal but a cow-i can get random parts. But nooooooo, our cattle are so antibiotic/hormone/mad cow laden we can't sell you anything.
I think i am going to get a hunting license before this years season starts.....
and maybe a cow that i can have whatever part i want....
(I use http://www.goodsearch.com myself, they give one penny for every search to the organization of your choice. Mine is going to a dog rescue group. They also give a % of sales if you buy through them. They have a list of stores/sites that are participating. Great way to help out.)
I did ,i can't afford to order it online(shipping and all that). I really want to be able to go get it. I found a ton of canned tripe-but that isn't what i am looking for.....
i guess i was imagining going to a local butcher shop, where we know each other because i go in there all the time-and the guy comes out with a bucket of nasty tripe, etc....
It may be illegal for the butcher to sell green tripe to you, but is it illegal for him to give it to you? That is how we get free venison because it is illegal to sell wild game here.
yeah-i would have to go up to VA to find beef tripe-but i did find a local place that would sell me venison tripe-but if i get my hunting license-i can bag my own deer during season-and that is even better.
really gross question-
my best friend's parents live in the woods, and hunt from their property. And my parents live on a hunting club estate, again in the woods.
If i got a deer near there, and i(with help) drug it back to the yard where it would normally be skinned, cut up, etc-if it were a deer just for the dogs, could i just let it sit there for a few hours, and let them eat it as is?
i mean, after they ate a bunch from the whole deer, then i would butcher the rest, and freeze it.
