MY 10 WEEK OLD PUP FEMALE PEES IN HER SLEEP, NOT EVERY TIME EITHER. I AM THINKING THAT THIS IS JUST A PUPPY THING, CAUSE THE DO TEND TO PEE WHEN EXCITED AND STUFF. WHICH IS VERY ANOYING. THE VET HOWEVER, WANTS TO TEST HER URINE, AND THEY ARE TELLING ME THAT I HAVE TO GET IT, BY HAVING HER PEE IN A CUP, FAT CHANCE. SO I AM NOT GETTING A SAMPLE, EVEN WITH A BIG SPOON, ANOTHER SUGGESTION FROM THE VET. SO ANYWAY, MAYBE SHE DOESN'T EVEN HAVE AN INFECTION. MAYBE LIKE SUBMISIVE URINATION SHE WILL GROW OUT OF IT. ANYONE ELSE WITH SIMILAR PROBLEM. CORRECT IF I AM WRONG BUT IT SEEMS THAT FEMALE DOGS ARE NOTARIOUS FOR URINATION PROBLEM BEHAVIORS. MORE SO THAN THE MALES, FROM MY EXPERIENCE.
May be puppy vaginatis...by definition, only happens with the girls. This is an infection and can be cured with antibiotics, but most vets recommend waiting until the first heat, after which it almost always cures itself.
Don't take any chances, though...do whatever you must, but collect a specimen and get it to the vet. Certainly, diagnosing of medical problems by email is even worse than trying to train dogs this way!

You are quite wrong males are notorious squirters. I have one that FINALLY (at 11 months) stopped squirting when I touch him. (thank god)
For those of you with me on the flinks method, everytime I would say "into my arms" my shoes would get hosed. I am not into golden doggie showers
Try going through that for 4 months. Don't worry, I replaced all the shoes.
Ok, back to your puppy. Most vets will have a tech come out to "catch" a sample at their office if you can at least make sure she has to go. I agree you need to get this checked out so she can be treated. You will have a hard time housebreaking a dog that has this problem and the dog may even get used to being "dirty" which will present a whole new problem.
When it is happening in the dogs sleep it is NOT submissive urination.
Your puppy is only 10 weeks old! That is very young. I brought my puppy home at 10 weeks and for about 3 weeks after that he dribbled a bit in his crate at night. Mostly because his crate was too large (I didn't want to buy another crate that would fit his puppy size).
Once he got the hang of holding it in at night it didn't happen again. I wasn't too upset, it's like asking a baby "Please don't pee in you diaper tonight." If your puppy has a urinary or vaginal infection you should be able to tell by the colour of the urine. It would be very dark, maybe with some red undertones. Try and get a sample if you can (be quick on the draw!). It seems to me to be purely an age thing.
I have heard that females who are spayed can have leaky problems, but since I've never had one perhaps someone else has had some experience with this.
My male was quite squirty though in his first year. Had to stop greeting him as soon as I came home from work (waited about 5 minutes). Then he was OK. Had my share of wet shoes. Physical maturity should solve that problem.
SHE HAS A VET APPOINTMENT ON MAY 18, SO BETWEEN NOW AND THEN I WILL KEEP TRYING,BUT IF I FAIL I WILL JUST HAVE THEM TRY TO GET IT.
The urine does not always change color with an infection. At one point when Auster was a pup she urintaed in the house every 15 minutes (5 times in a row); at that point we took in a urine sample because we knew something was wrong. The urine didn't change color (thankfully the carpet didn't either ).
If it is an infection it will only get worse with time. Try cutting a paper cup in half so that it isn't very tall and waiting until you know she has to go. First thing in the morning is best since the urine will be most concentrated. You don't have to get very much, just a cc or three will allow them to do a test strip.

on getting sample of urine from puppy for vet I had to get a sample from a 5 week old she whined ever time she peed which cause me to believe she had a urinary tract infection I took a 5 gal bucket cut it off to about 1 inch deep and watched her close when she went to squart I grabed her and set her in the pan got the urine sample I needed and she did have a infection and was cleared up with meds. you may have to follow her around for a while but that was a easy method for me.
