Can dogs who have had SIBO, or had histories with intestinal sensitivities and issues, ever be safely fed a raw diet? If so, are there special precautions in beginning the raw diet for dogs with history of some intestinal sensitivities?
My GSD has EPI and has had a few occurrences of SIBO. Switching her to raw has encouraged her digestive system to be healthy by not putting as much stress on it...way easier to digest than kibble. When switching her, and always actually, she gets a supplement of digestive enzymes, probiotics, and vitamins/minerals. Check out http://www.b-naturals.com for some excellent supplements (I give their digestion blend and immune blend). She does great and has not had SIBO since switching.
Many have told me that kibble is safer than raw for dogs who have had a bout or two of SIBO. I very much hope this is not true, as I wish to switch my GSD to an all-raw, no kibble diet starting this summer.
Do you think your experience is unique? Or have other people on the forums had SIBO dogs do well on raw? I am happy your dog is doing well on it and her digestion seems actually better. While I know it may well depend on the causes of the health issues, I really hope to hear that raw is safe for dogs with history of intestinal issues, soft stools or SIBO. And, I hope there are dogs who have done better on raw as yours has!
