So weve had the tri-tronics bark limiter on our 4 year old Weimaraner in the crate for 3 days now and we are up to level 4 and I am writting this as he barks non stop. Even when he isnt barking, hes whisleing, whining, scratching. We know its on and that he is receving the correction (he yelps occasionally), and we know its tight enough. We only have one more setting to go before its maxed out. Is it possible this just wont work on him?
Note - We are at just ending week 2 of the social isolation phase of establishing pack order, and we got the bark limiter after he was still barking and acting silly in the crate.
Anyone else have similar experiences with the collar?
Carolyn, turn it down to 2 and tighten it a little more and make sure its centered high on his throat. It's not just the contacts, its that diaphragm that has to be in contact.
I have only had my tritronics for a couple of months so I am no expert. Having said that, you might want to check the battery. Along with making sure it is tight enough and making good contact. I had to use the longer probes and turn mine up to four to get it to stop Chief from barking.
Thanks for all of the feedback everyone! You guys are great. We actually had it high on his throat, and tried moving it down lower on his neck and so far (knock on wood) we are getting better results. Could be the result of exhaustion from a long walk too though
Also, is the collar smart enough to pick up the whining and "purring" as I like to call it, or will it only correct a bark?
Thanks
Carrie

The tri works on Vibration rather than a sound diaphragm as is the case with the Dogtra 500. I use the dogtra new 300 as well as the tri T. and yes, both do catch whining IF the box is placed properly. Try scratching a plastic spoon or your nail on the box and you can see how much vibration it takes to set off the stem.
