any suggestions on this? Jake is so excited that he knows I have a treat in my hand that he'll chomp down on my fingers/hand, then it's like he goes "nope, not what I'm looking for", sniffs, and tries again. It's never painful, but definitely uncomfortable. I've taken to offering treats in the palm of my hand with the hand held completely flat (like you feed a horse). He never fails to get my hands completely slobbery
Dixon on the other hand nibbles gently no matter how excited he is. Oh how different they are-
Someting that has worked for me is to hold the treat between your thumb and index finger and actually kind of shove the treat down into the dogs mouth. It only took a few times for my boy to get it. Now he is the most gentle treat taker!
Kodee did that too. I starting holding my hand backwards (picture me holding the treat down with the back of my hand towards him, instead of my fingers with the treat. Then I lift turn my hand and let him take the treat. I don't know why this works, you'd think he'd chomp the back of my hand, but he just takes the treat gently when I turn the treat towards him. I guess maybe it just slows the whole treat-grabbing process down a little, so he's not so rough...
He's usually gentle now, but sometimes he'll get too eager if he's really worked up (like if I have super high-value treats), so I just go back to using this method once or twice, and then he remembers to be gentle.
P.S. This method avoids getting "slobber-hand." LOL

Sorry if it is off topic but at another forum a person asked a question about that- she met a dog owner who lets her dog nip her hands (wears gloves and is very patient- apparently the dog nips so it hurts) because she wants her dog to do protection and it is a big no-no to forbid a protection dog to bite. I can understand it when it comes to a young dog mouthing your hands when playing but nipping when taking a treat puzzles me...
